My 6920, which I bought new in 2002, had the Sporter unshrouded and half circle carrier in it. Everytime I shot it, the firing pin retaining pin would get bent and beat all to hell. I finally got tired of prying it out everytime I field stripped the weapon so I decided I would replace the carrier with the LE version (which it should have had in the first place) but changed my mind when I saw how much it was going to cost to buy a new carrier, pin and retainer.
Instead, I called Colt up earlier this year and spoke to someone in customer service about it. He took my Department address and said they would send me a new firing pin, retainer and carrier. I asked what carrier it would be and he said "the M16 carrier." I said OK and in about 6 weeks or so I finally had all the parts. Works like a dream now and no more mangled retainer.
Apparently Colt finds no problem with putting M16 carriers in semi-autos and, of course, neither do I. Its what should have been in it from the start.
