Wow... This is exactly what I've wanted in an OBR:
PredatAR Series OBR Available in both 5.56 and 7.62NATO with either 16" or 18" barrels, much lighter profile than standard OBRs. DI, standard low profile gas blocks. Much longer handguards, nearly cover a 16" barrel. Of note, the handguard and flattop upper are at the same height on the PredatARs, but there is no longer a continuous top rail segment that bridges them together. 0 MOA top rails on both guns. 5.56 is under 6 lbs, 7.62 is under 8 lbs. Very good weight numbers. Rough screen cap showing the 7.62 version with 16" barrel: YouTube video link ETA: Corrected spelling, added info on handguard |

I think I'm still gonna go with the original OBR but...I may change my mind! |

I think I still like the Original OBR lite better! I like the zero moa on this but yea I like the look of the standard obr. |

I'd buy one if the were available in HBAR. 18"w/14" handguard or similar.

If you can "zero out" the moa by using their scope mount on the current OBR lite, why would this new one be better? I need to make sure of this, because I was about 2 weeks away from ordering the OBR lite. |

I just don't think I'd need it for my normal range shooting(where others I'm sure love that it is there). |

My only point is if I can control the "cant" with whatever scope mount I am using, then the fact I like the LOOKS of the orig OBR better, then I think I am still leaning towards the orig one. I don't like the long handrail look of the new one. Now I hope the waiting period doesn't go up to 6 months because they are busy shipping out the new version! |
WOW, that is the OBR 7.62 that I needed. The Predator Series OBR fits the bill for me as a hunting guide. I would have waited to get it for the weight reduction.
SH%IT, now I have to buy another 7.62. That sounds like the 7.62 carbine I've been looking for.
I didnt like the idea at first. The more I think about it and the more I watch the video, the better this idea gets. Im from IL so never needed the PST. Dont shoot out at very long ranges, so I really didnt need the cant. Not a fast rate of fire guy, so I dont necessarily need the heavier barrel. My 16" Stealth is heavy so a lighter carry varmint rig could be right up my alley. Just curious where the price point will be at.

Just got done fondling the 5.56 & 7.62 PredatARs pricing according to Alfred will be $1495 for the 5.56 & $2495 for the 7.62. Not bad, might swing some guys who were on the fence about OBRs over to LaRue anyway. He did not say if this was an intro price like the OBR 7.62 was at $2495 when it was introduced though.
Mark looked mighty spiffy in that suit! Out to impress the young ladies no doubt! ETA Got my dillo as well! |
So standard gas blocks, not adjustable ones? Hmmmm. Is the 10.5" OBR 5.56 coming with the 0 MOA top rail or the built-in MOA top rail? What about its gas block? Would be nice to see a 10.5 OBR 5.56 with 0 MOA top rail and adjustable gas block. But hey, these new rifles are badass either way.

I'll definitely be buying a Larue obr 7.62 predator now. The biggest reason I shied away from the obr was weight!

I heard Mark Fingar say standard gas block but does that mean a regular low profile gas block? or does it mean the same gas block that comes standard on the original OBR? it is probably just me and my wishful thinking... but why loose the port selector gas block?

5.56 14.5" with pinned flash hider, please
Are the barrels still LR LW-50? |
Dear Mark,
Do you guys really enjoy torturing a poor college student because it seems like it. I hope that the government dosnt mind me spending my GI bill money on an OBR |
I don't know if I can love my 16" OBR non-predator as much. I'm fickle.
What about an SBR with the selectable gas port? I would be in line for one of those guys...
I guess I should have waited. I just paid $3k for my 762 OBR, but I really wanted something a little more lightweight with a 0 MOA rail. Maybe if I beg, LaRue will sell the Predator Uppers only to current OBR owners. |
What's all this talk of 10.5" also, did I miss that in the video? If so would the 10.5" be predator only and 12" full profile only?

Quoted: Standard gas block is cheaper and you'd need a hole in the longer handguard to turn the port selector. Did they use a cheaper trigger also or is it still a SSA trigger?Quoted: I heard Mark Fingar say standard gas block but does that mean a regular low profile gas block? or does it mean the same gas block that comes standard on the original OBR? it is probably just me and my wishful thinking... but why loose the port selector gas block? WOW...this is just what I was wanting. I wanted a new AR for coyote hunting since I sold my last dedicated one and was looking into doing a build with a 16" Stealth upper but DANG this thing is going to be light without a lot of the stuff I don't need in a predator AR. I'm sold! Coyotes in fall/winter 2011 beware!!!

That OBR-L looks great. Any better pics of it? How is there a $500 difference between the predators and the standard series?

Barrel information? Please. He told me it was a pencil barrel, its turned down to save weight. Its not the same Lothar-Walther barrel thats in the OBR. Bear in mind, I'm not a barrel expert by any means. And as to the difference in price from the OBR, I can only guess. It does not have the adjustable gas block, and you're buying less aluminum as the handguard is noticeably lighter than the OBR. Lowers are the same, only thing I noticed was that the serial numbers are not numbered LTxxx like my OBR is. But that's about it. Seems like a bargain for those who want a zero MOA rail LaRue rifle, which is why I assume they decided to make this version of the rifle, from customer feedback. If I was to venture I guess, I'd say the quoted price is probably an intro. Will see I guess. Obligatory DIllo pic: http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/349/photoxx.jpg Thank you, hopefully we will see the LW barrel in this one as well. |

$1495 for the 5.56??? WOW, I was contemplating getting a Stealth Upper, but at $1495, I might as well just pick one of these up. Interested in the rest of the specs....
Oh yeah, someone in Vegas, grab me a Dillo Plz... |
under 6 pounds? guess its time to sell some stuff so me can haz
How many rounds can we safely throw through that pencil barrel? I dont mean life expectancy, i mean normal firing. If they are marketing it for hunting and 3 gun, I would think it would be quite a few.
Hopefully the Marks will be around shortly to fully fill us in on the new stuff.

My intention was to carry the OBR 7.62 while guiding deer hunters. But, with my NightForce, it is pretty heavy. Probably stick to my model 700 (30.06) for guiding/tracking. Possibly carry my AR15 with some heavier bullets. Regardless, I will jump on the the Predator OBR 5.56 now. |
I like the price and how it looks. Curios to hear more about the barrel and accuracy they produce.
