cant believe the AJC actually posted this!!!

At least six other similar incidents have been reported around the metro area this year, and in each case, the gun owner was not charged. One week before the Ingles shooting, a clerk at a Cobb County liquor store exchanged gunfire with two would-be robbers, killing one. A Stone Mountain barber victimized by a string of burglaries shot one of two would-be thieves, holding the robber at gunpoint until police arrived. The owner of West End Tattoo parlor in Atlanta faced off against three armed intruders, killing one and causing the others to confronted by a Decatur homeowner who heard them kicking in his back door All three young men, one of whom had been shot in the thigh, were captured by police. With his two children asleep in their rooms, an Ellenwood father confronted three armed men, killing one and causing the others to flee on foot"More and more people are exercising their right to defend their property,"

ah my favorite lady still gets a chance to chime in.....tell me again why she is an expert?

It's certainly appropriate to defend yourself if your life is in danger," said Alice why anyone would want to kill another human being over the money in the cash register."

And these face-offs don't always end with the would-be victim standing, she said"We do not reduce gun violence by increasing the number of guns," Johnson told the AJC

hummm.....
Cops are likewise torn. While they support the right of legal gun owners to protect their lives and property, too many civilians don't know how to use firearms properly, Sandy Springs police spokesman Steve Rose said"A lot of people who own guns are afraid of them," he told the AJC When confronted, as Moore was Saturday night, Rose advises would-be victims to "shoot until the threat is down." But be aware of the consequences

Hah.  Damn.  I told my wife that I there wasn't going to be any coverage of it.  I'm glad I was wrong.

I read that yesterday as well. I loved the fact the Police Chief said although he was torn on citizen carry he advised potential victims to "shoot until the thread is down." No problem.

I think his concern is legitimate; very few people have taken any kind of handgun training.

Its a tough line to draw for most people.  Everyone should have (and does as far as im concerned save for convicted felons) the right to carry a handgun wherever they please.  On the other hand shouldn't people have to show some kind of proficiency when carrying, deploying, and using said gun?  I know people who carry that i can honestly say pose a greater danger to the public with their gun than without.

I know its been beat into the ground before, but its a tough issue.

A huge dose of their own medicine usually cures the creeps, why did you use a 45, cause I didn't have a 46.

I am with PIB and marshjr. I wont go to most public ranges anymore because of the jackassery that goes on. I try to be the positive gun owner and suggest that they point down range and keep the finger off the trigger, but it typically results in "I have been shooting since I was XX, I know what I am doing!"

And put them in a stressful situation and they will fall apart potentially hurting others, or worse yield a weapon to a criminal. But at least they have a chance to win. Take away the gun and their chances are greatly reduced. God made man. Samuel Colt made them equal.

I hear more and more people buying guns now that have never shot one before in their life. Even the VP where I work was asking me about what pistol he should buy the other day, and when I gave him my advice on the pistol he was asking about( a sigma) he said he really didn't care because he was never planning on firing the gun. My only response was that a rock would be a better tool for protection than a pistol that he didn't know how to use. Take in mind that he has never even held a pistol of anykind, and only fired a rifle once when he was a child.

I've been in that exact situation.  execs I have never talked to came up and asked me questions.  got the same type of response about never using it.  just so happens I am on the DR team and this exec knows that so I compared it to our DR plan.  even though we never expect to use our DR plan we still practice and test it several times a year....

I offered to take her shooting, and if she had any guns she thought she might want I would try to make sure I brought that one.  so far no trips...

I just love how people tend to come ask me what my opinion is on a certain weapon when their mind is already made up. I always offer to accompany anyone new to the range and bring whatever firearms that I own, I might not be the best to accompany anyone to the range, but hopefully good enough to make sure they have a safe trip and are interested enough to seek further training or practice. I grew up shooting guns and having my ruger single six on my side around the house since I was 11 or 12. Never knew how many people didn't know anything about pistols and firearm safety till the past few years.

To be fair, neither do a lot of police officers.

A few years ago I had the CEO's wife come up to me and flash the derringer she just bought for her purse, no holster. Her and her husband easily cleared $700k a year and couldn't spend more than $60 for a handgun... a dangerous POS handgun at that.

Definitely agree with the part in red.  In MO, to get a CCW permit, you have to hit within the silhouette at 7 yards, it was a little frightening how large of a group some people shot under little pressure and low adrenaline.

I think Alice, and those who think like her should post gun free zone placards at their homes and places of business and maybe wear some sort of notice in order for the crooks to know who they can safely rob/kill.I mean, if they REALLY believe what they say, they should do everything in their power to keep the scum safe.
