You will probably have to order one online and have it shipped to a local FFL. I'm not sure what they are currently going for, $400-$500 maybe?

$400 sounds reasonable. Having stripes put on it will probably cost extra though.

What are stripped preban lowers going for then?

There was a thread in GD telling us to suck it and that selling them at 6-700 was reasonable to them

Cast receivers go for $400 to $600 depending on the stupidity of the buyer.
Forged receivers go for $500 to stupid expensive depending on the brand and how bad the buyer wants one.

There are exceptions - I've found PWA stripped prebans for as low as $350. You have to be patient to find the good deals, and lucky to get there before the dealer in CT who buys up everything but Colts and drives prices up for the rest of us behind enemy lines.

Often it can be cheaper to buy a complete rifle and sell the excess parts than it is find just a lower. Usually someone selling a "pre-ban lower" knows it is and is charging accordingly.

I have two pre-ban Colts. One bought as just a lower, one bought as a rifle. The complete rifle cost me $175 more.

Very sound advice...

The striped ones are most expensive, especially the ones that resemble fruit stripe gum.

$500-$650 pre ban lower $350 very lucky find pre ban lower. It may be more advantageous to buy a complete rifle. Most fall in the $1000 to $1200 range (colt). New POST ban lowers may be had for $120 (LRB). So how bad do you want a flash hider or CTR? You think the ARFCOM guys would help other members out ant not try to price rape us.

Lurking out of towner here dropping in uninvited and leaving my 2¢, not to stir the pot or anything, just give another perspective.

I have had my pre ban since before the ban.
It works just fine and I like it the way it is.
My kids like it and we have some history and memories with it.

My buddies are in the same position.

There would have to be a very compelling reason to go through the hassle and expense of having a perfectly good working rifle stripped down or turned into a frankengun forevermore.

If it was only about profit the the rest of us in non ban states would have sold our rifles or lowers already.

Then there are the guys who have a second/ third/ fifteenth hand preban and could care less that is, but don't know it.

Kind of limits the supply to ban states I think.

Just my opinions FWTW

Something tells me the people posting theirs for 600 and up.......not so nostalgic Its theirs and they can sell it for what they want to. Just think that with all the pre ban lowers floating around that our fellow ARFCOMers would show some support to those of us behind the line. Not looking for free.
