when m4 feed ramps are in a barrel ext and in the upper, the transition between the two should be smooth, correct?  or should there be a slight ridge?  i'm using a fine point pen and it catches, haven't tried an ammo tip yet, but I was just concerned at first sight.

one reason M4 cuts are completely unnecessary.  But yes I do believe that the transition should be smooth and should not be cut separately as in the upper done without the perspective barrel installed and mated.

Check out this picture.  Which one does your barrel have?  If it has the bad one, I would get that fixed or you will probably run into feeding issues down the road as it will catch on the transition from the bottom feed ramp, and the upper part of the feed ramp;.

As long as the high side of the ridge is on the receiver side of things it's not an issue. But if the extension cut is higher it could cause feed problems.

Probably it's fine.

And they are not needed as said.
