"Police said he was hit by bullets from the suspects' two .22-caliber handguns and is now paralyzed on one side of his body with a bullet lodged close to his spine. His right eye has been removed."

I was a bit surprised to read this.  That is one nasty capgun!

Not sure, but I have heard that the .22 has more non war related kills than any other caliber.

I've heard the same as Gunslinger, specifically regarding .22LR.  Since there are so many .22LR guns in circulation, they're represented more in shooting statistics, including people who die from their wounds.  Also, keep in mind that ".22-caliber" doesn't have to mean .22LR.  It could mean .22 Magnum, .223 in a handgun, etc.
