Any particular reason you want to build it yourself? You can get a good Spikes upper at AIM Surplus for $499 with BCG. They're sold out now but I think more are due in today. You can also get a Daniel Defense upper for $349 to $525 without BCG depending on configuration at Smartgunner.com.

I'm out here in w cobb off dallas hwy. browsing for a 20' stainless upper need optic suggestions, affordable. also need some competent assistance in assembly, as this is my first.

This is for the precision rifle class, right? If you can help define 'affordable' as well as what your goals are for the rifle that would help a few more responses out of people.
Have you been researching brands of barrels and optics? What kind of budget are you looking at (rifle and optic)? Did you say you had a fixed carry handle Nat'l Match rifle? Have you considered just swapping the carry handle upper for a flat top? Could be an option to put the rest of the budget into the optics. You can't hit what you can't see, and it's harder to hit at distance with a crappy barrel, especially if it (and you) aren't shooting to 1 MOA or better. |

How much are you looking to spend for each item? I've got optic recommendations from around $300 up to $3200, just need to know your price range.
FWIW, Bushmaster sells new V-Match barreled uppers, 20" or 24", (minus BCG and charging handle) for $470. These are flattop uppers. |

I think we actually met at USSA's class this year. call Chris at semper fi arms. he isnt too far from you, about 20-30 min. I have a feeling he has everyhing you need in stock or can get it very quickly. just out of curiosity. why 20"? why not 18"? |

I need to check this Semper Fi Arms. I'm in the same general area as y'all, just across the county line in Paulding Co. Right where the Acworth and Dallas addresses mix together.
Also, just to throw it out there, I don't recommend a gas piston for a "precision rifle" intent AR, unless you want to go with a much thicker barrel. The vibrations that are set up by the piston system aren't exactly conducive to dead nuts accuracy. |

Thanks to all very useful. Yes 18" comlpete upper less than 600.00 plus lower w 2 stage trigger
had not thought of swapping the carry handle for Ftop. great idea. yes its a RRarms Nmatch I'll google semperfi arms, must be close! ga jeep i'mm off of casteel/fship church. I remember you from Chris class last year bummed the lvl II class sold out so quik. i gotta check this site more often..... again thanks to all |
