im stumped. the license place told me i cant get a state id because i have a mass drivers license. and i cant get a pa ltc without haveing a mass one (mine is expired) and not only am i not going to mass anytime soon, mass wants 100 bucks now for an ltc and a training course (who knows what that would cost? and then i could finally spend the 46 for an ltc here, but that still wont get me an id. i only want the id because my wife and i just bought a new shotgun and it took like 3 days to get all the papperwork and the place they call told the dealer no because we needed something else and the next we called to tell them (nics check i guess) that we couldnt get what they wanted (some kind of county paperwork) and the person they talked to said we didnt need it!!!

i just want an easier way for a lwaful person in pa to buy a gun (when your sort of not a resident). just sucks kind it seems like there is no way.

anyone have any thoughts.

Not to be a smart ass or anything.....but you cant be a resident of PA if you are a resident of Mass. And you need a valid resident LTCF from your home state to get a Non-Res for PA, as you have found out. But that still does not qualify as a state issued ID. Are you working in PA? Are you actually living here? If your pay stubs are to a PA address, and you are paying PA income tax you qualify for residence.
I would say that your best bet is to get on 84 East and head back to Mass to renew that LTCF.
There is no way around this that I know of.

 OK......

In order to get a PA DRIVERS LICENSE you must submit an application, have a photo taken, and SURRENDER ANY VALID Drivers License from another state.

If you DO NOT HAVE a valid license you MUST take a written and driving test for PA.

You will also need proof of RESIDENCE in PA. to get that license.

ALL  INFO IS HERE––-> http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/new_residents/driver_license.shtml  and  http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/licensing_master/identity.shtml

In order to buy a long gun or handgun in PA you will ALSO need ID  ( and proof of PA residence for a handgun. )

A valid PA drivers license or other Govt. Photo ID is required.

i dont work in pa yet. my wife works in jersey so she bought a house here in pa (who would want to live in jersey?)

but we are both going to keep are mass residency. someday ten or fifteen years form now we either gonna move back to mass or retire to new hampshire. we'll be in our mid 40's then so we just retire and relax.

im not trying to get a drivers license, i already have a mass one that im keeping. i just wanted to get a state id that shows my pa address to make it easier to purchase in this state. we just bought a new gun 3 weeks ago, it was just a pain in the tookus. it just sucks that you have to surrender your license even to get an id card.

i was just wondering of anyone knew of somthing i may have overlooked?

Unfortunatley there is nothing you overlooked.
You must be a resident of the Commonwealth to have an ID stating so.

(And seriously, I was not trying to be a smart ass.)

Since you obviously didn't READ from my link here it is.

"All new residents with out-of-state non-commercial driver's licenses must obtain a PA Driver’s License within 60 days of establishing Pennsylvania residency. To apply, you must appear in person at one of our Driver License Centers. You will be required to surrender your out-of-state driver’s license (valid or expired six months or less) before PennDOT can issue you a PA Driver's License. You will need to take a vision-screening test and complete Form DL-180R “Application for Pennsylvania Non-Commercial Driver’s License By Out-of-State Non-CDL Driver.” In addition, you will need to show proof of identification and residency and your Social Security"

IF YOU DRIVE HERE MORE THAN 60 DAYS ON YOUR OLD LICENSE - AND  pa FINDS OUT YOU LIVE HERE - YOU WILL BE JUMPING
THROUGH HOOPS IN JAIL.

get it ?

(who would want to live in jersey?)

Actually, I pretty much grew up in NJ (age 8 through 27) and I loved living there. I lived in a small town in Northern NJ with good pizza, good bagels, a 45 minute drive to Yankee Stadium and 25 minute drive to Giants Stadium. Lots of pretty girls, things to do, etc. Don't knock it if you haven't lived there.

NJ blows my friend.  I'm trapped here by Gov't Employment otherwise I would have jumped the border.
