I need some fly fishing suggestions. First off i am using a Tenkara rod so it is not traditional fly fishing. In the past i have done MUCH better in tight mountain streams with cascades and pools rather than the wide open slower rivers the western fly fishing favors. Mostly just smaller with some current and what not. I would like some recommendations on any creaks, rivers, water fall areas to give a try this winter. I am thinking north GA should have some good spots. I am in Atlanta and even thought of trying to find some places around here. I dont know if fishing is off limits but i remember some cascade areas in some water near sweet water park. Strange as it sounds i would love to find some little hidden areas around metro Atlanta as well. Even in the hood (CCW obviously.) The tenkara rod folds up small when hiking and works in some tight little overgrown areas. So it is easy to get back into places.

Is there many fish in the Chattahoochee? Maybe some of the little tributary would work for the metro area. Sorry if i posted the same basic question last year. Just looking for some info to help get my search started.

Just a idea of what i was catching out west and you can see the little river in the background.

There's a shitload of stocked 8-14" trout in the hooch at any given time. The area around Jones bridge park and Buford Dam are popular. I've never had much luck fly fishing but some folks report catching dozens in a day.

I prefer getting on a plane to fly fish in the salt.

N ga has plenty of trout streams but none of them compare to out west. There simply isn't the nutrients and food supply in our streams from what I have heard. There are a few pay to fish places but they are no different than hunting a fenced in deer to me. Fences and pellet fed trophy fish.

Checking out Dukes creek up near Helen. You have to pay for parking, but otherwise it's free. Call a few days in advance and reserve a spot. With the temps dropping the fish should be moving more. Wet flies are your best bet. Stone fly nymphs and San Juan worms usually do the trick. It's a trophy stream that's heavily regulated. Barbless only.

I have had a lot of luck in the public area of the Soque near Clarkesville. Perfect for tenkara.

I probably wouldn't bother with a tenkara in the hooch. It's big enough for a few double hauls. And deep. Lots of browns though.

Get on the GON forums. They have a dedicated fly fishing forum

Toccoa River beyond the dam at Lake Blue Ridge is a good producer, plenty of big trout in those waters. The fluctuating water level is a pain, be sure to check the generating schedule if you are wading, best bet is a float trip. Several guides offer trips on that stretch of water as well.
