Damn thing is pouring water all over the place. Its a major leak.
240 gallons at risk. Just did an emergancy movement of all fish into a 100 gallon and the fish that were in there went into a 55 gallon that I had to rush to set up. Only took me 1.5 hours to catch 30 large Frontosas and 10 smaller fish and set up the 55gallon. Record time when your under the gun. The rest of the water is being syphoned out. Second time this tank has sprung a leak. But this one is bad. Time to get rid of it. Now to stay up the rest of the night and get pissed off about it. |
That's sucked, Legs. You can place these Frontosas in the bath tub, right? |
Sorry to hear about that my man.
POP had a huge tank - about the same size when I was a kid - it popped twice. Pure horror in the house when this happened - the world stopped and it was all about the fish and the carpet. I feel your pain. - But do not want to be in your shoes. |
Is the 240 gallon tank, 'the big one'?
Wow! That's a real bitch, I would imagine. Hopefully, you can get the problem solved without too much trouble...or too much more trouble. Eric The(GrilledOrBlackened?)Hun |

Well I was up until 2am fucking with this.
All my fish are safe. I was lucky that this basically happened right in front of me, shortly after dinner. I am guessing that the tank was leaking for a short time. Looks like the seams failed in three different areas at the bottom. The worst place it could happen. Had this happened while I was at work all the water would have been all over my apartment and the fish would have been dead. Still a lot of water around the tank but its empty now and it will dry. Now I have to come up with $1500 to get a new tank. I'll be going to the fish store to trade in all the babies. They are in a 30 gallon grow tank. Guess I will need 3 people later to help me move the big tank outside. Damn 240 tank weighs around 500 lbs. alone without any sand in it. |
I got a good deal on it and it was used! Lasted for two years without any problems. Then 6 months ago it had its first small leak. I drained it and just resealed over the old seal. Looks like the whole bottom glass has separated from the rest of the tank. |
Hate to hear that. Never lost a tank. <crosses fingers><knocks on wood>
Fish are great and it looks like you had put a lot of effort into a great tank. Fish tanks are better than Paxil or any of the other soul sucking drugs to relax and refresh the mind when one kicks back and watches them for an hour with a good classical CD playing. wganz ¶ |
I can confirm that it was a PITA moving it onto a new stand due to its size... with 4 people. If its broken, can you just break it :D and get it over with? |
I'll sell it cheap. Some other fish types won't mind re-sealing it if I sell it cheap enough. I am going acrylic for the next one. So I will only have to worry about scratches and none of this kind of shit any more. Acrylic tanks don't split at the seams over time. |

Sorry about your lose. I need to get in touch w/ you the next time you come over to TRG's house. I want about a 175 gallon fresh water in my new house, and would appreciate your advice before buying anything.
Right now I'd tell you to buy an acrylic tank. They last longer but scratch easier. |
Are the smaller tanks more reliable? Since there is less pressure on the walls?
Well, bad things happen to bad people. TRG |

Sorry to hear about your tank that is a really nice set up.
Can any of you guys help me out? I have a 55 gallon oscar tank with one oscar. I reset it up after I moved to Houston with a new oscar and one pleco. I have had it set up since July with no problems and last week, over about 3 days, it has clouded completly greem. I cant see in the tank 3 inches. What can I do to get rid of this? Is it an amonia problem? I will take a pic if that would help. thanks |
Not necessarily, depends on age and how many times the tank has been moved. Also a level or un-level stand will determine tank strength over time. A lot of things can go wrong. But if you have an all glass tank, odds are That at some point it will leak. But I have a 55 gallon tank that is almost 20 years old and has never leaked. Also have a 100 gallon that is 8 years old and has never leaked. They are both all glass tanks. |
same with our 135gal. ~15yrs |
Indeed. Resealing is a pain, though. You have to scrape off and clean all of the old silicone off the edges for the seal to be reliable... Edit: I would ask you what you want for it, but I've got no room for that size tank right now... |

Dude. I've been there. Used to raise African Cichlids.
Nothing like the sound of drip-drip-drip and flopping fish to ruin your night. Good luck. Ed |
I have a 40 gallon setup if anyone wants to Buy it for cheap.
Yep, I tried to get him to come to Tate's with me and hang out, but he was too "busy" with computer problems, or some such nonsense. Now look what happened. Instant Karma. TRG - you owe me $20. Legs - you owe me $65. |

Those Frontosas are good looking fish, glad to here you were there to save them. Sorry to hear about your tank and I feel your pain. I have a 225 gal that needs repaired. Came home after being gone for a week on vacation and noticed my tank looked funny. Then I noticed the top of the sides were bowed out. After inspecting the tank I found that the top brace holding the sides together had pulled apart, broke off one side. Now I have clamps holding the top together until I find the time to drain the tank and make the repair. I don't know how the side glass held together under that amount of pressure, but feel luck it did.

I L L, I'll help you move your new tank in, and your old tank out, just gimme a holler.

Thanks for your offer FAIL-SAFE.
Just ordered the new aquarium and it will be here Saturday. Got a bigger tank! And this NEW tank costs less than the old used piece of shit that leaked. Go figure. I found a decent company who builds nice all glass aquariums. I could use three people to help me pick it up and move it into my place. And move the old one out on the back porch. They are both very heavy. They weigh around 500 lbs. I will have to rent a moving van since the tank will be 8 ft long. Got to pick it up in Denton where they have a shipping warehouse. I’ll order us a pizza for us to eat to replace the energy used to move the beasts. |
Fuck a moving van, I gots a truck. We'll strap it down in the bed of my truck. It'll hang out the back about a 1 1/2, and I'll just tie a piece of red cloth to the end. We'll look like rednecks, but we'll be in Denton, so we'll blend in just fine.
Needs full support for the trip to my place. Can't have any of the tank hanging off the end of the truck at all. I will also have to put styrofoam under it for the trip home. Otherwise, the stress may break the seal somewhere. Then I would be right back it the same boat. |

No, I am buying a brand new with warranty one... |

I would volunteer, but I have an obligation in Canton that day. I can help sunday?
TRG |
Sorry, I completely forgot about that part. I'll still be able to help you out this weekend, though. |
Just put a sheet of wood and a sheet of foam underneath it... That'll give it the same protection that a big truck would offer. |
Plywood bends pretty easy. I doubt it would give much support.

I have FAIL-SAFE and wganz and FALARAK to help saturday.
Free pizza for your time and effort. Thanks guys. I'll be renting a U-haul. Not taking any chances this time. |

Man....I would spend all my $$$ on guns and ammo...instead of fish, their food, equipments, cleaning up with or without leaking..... |
