Im wanting to buy a long range precision rifle here soon, but im back and forth on which caliber to go with. Does anyone in the central IL area shoot bolt action in 223 or 308 that would let me tag along to the range or something sometime? Il help pay for some ammo and lunch or whatever is needed.

If youre looking for something with long range capabilities thats not too expensive, Ive heard great things about the remington 700.  I went to school with a guy that was an Army Ranger and he wouldnt buy anything else.  I personally dont own one, I have a savage .270 bolt, terrible gun.  My Dad has a Browning A-bolt 30-06, he can make a nice group at 500 yards.

This! You stand a better chance of receiving help if you give your location. IL is a big state.

Savage makes EXCELLENT firearms so long as you dont buy their lowest tier.  Steer clear of the Stevens/Axis/Edge.

+1 on Savage. Good quality rifle at a decent price.

Lock-nut system on barrel allows caliber-swaps within about 20 minutes. MidwayUSA has all the toys you need to change barrels, bolts, and mags.

Running a Savage 16FL .223 sporter model rebuilt to .308 in a Choate stock with A&B heavy barrel, Bushnell 10x40 Elite 3200, and a SharpShooterSupply trigger. Sub-MOA @ 200 yards using factory ammo.

Get a hold of me about reloading.  If you want to get started you can come over and I'll show you the ins and outs. You buy bullets, brass, powder, and primers and you can use my shit to get started. You said 223 I got what you need. Get a 308 and we can take care of that also. You saw how far I can shoot, Not very far, but you are more than welcome to come over and pop off a few. Had fun, Let me know.
