Dave sent me a dvd of "Purely Belter" which I enjoyed very much. I would have never seen this movie or even thought about it if Dave had not turned me on about it.

I have noticed a lot of references here about American movies and tv programs.

My point is, what English movies do you chaps like and could recommend???

Thanks...Wally

Where were you yesterday?? On a job??

Mark - Purely Belter is about 4 million times harder to understand than Kes, but I have a copy of Kes sitting here, so I know what I'm sending Wally next!

Other English films -

The Full Monty

Mrs Brown

Brassed Off

and another good northern one:

Billy Elliot!!

Link Posted: 9/11/2005 12:55:42 AM EDT
What about 'Snatch', 'Lock Stock' & 'Gosford Park'?
Link Posted: 9/11/2005 2:22:34 AM EDT
For a light-hearted film try 'Saving Grace'.
Makes me laugh every time.

+1 on the Guy Richie stuff, but it's from the other end of the spectrum completely. Don't quite think it shows typical 'Britishness' though.

Anyone remember Party Party

Mrs Brown was good

What about Mike Bassett, England Manager

I aint no John boy.........

Now, as to Mrs Brown...if thats the one with Billy Connolly, I have seen and liked it. I do believe that Mark's best scene was when the kilt was off and the tally whacker exposed as he jumped into the lake

Another good Brit-Gangster filim is 'Going Off Big Time'. A hidden (low budget) gem! 'Sexy Beast' is worth a look as well.

I saw the full monty with the german dubbing, a great film had me in stitches. Still cant get a grip on how good thier german was
I should have known when i was first posted over here and watched the Duke (John Wayne) ride into an indian village, he raised his right hand and gave the usuall 'How'. that was all that i understood, the rest that followed was double deutsch to me back then. It was a good job that I had seen that particular film 3 or 4 times.

Just watching Sexy Beast on C4 now, Ben Kingsleys speach to the airport cop accusing the cabin crew of "touching his front bum".......... Priceless...........

He managed to bring new meaning to the "Psycho" character....
