State real estate taxes are reduced or gone at age 65, depending upon income. Still have local.

Defined benefit pension plan income income tax free. Billion Dollar Bob is going to try to get defined contribution income up to some level taxempt too

except for certain areas in Birmingham, Alabama has some of the lowest property taxes in the country.  Montgomery has the lowest property taxes of any metropolitan area in the country

Lower taxes translate to lower prices on the products coming from those lands.  Most people and all Libs, never see how much government contributes to the cost of the things that we buy and hense the largest reason for jobs moving over seas.

I remember reading something a while back that if AL doubled it's property taxes it would still be the cheapest in the nation.

Not that you would have to worry about this but the city of Birmingham has a 1% income tax and Jefferson County has a .5% income tax.

So you still get the shaft in Birmingham!

Just because property taxes are low does not mean that the total tax burden is low.  Alabama has sales taxes, imcome taxes and gas taxes.  The total tax burden divided by the per capita income makes Alabama 17th from the highest.
