At our dinner on Sunday gotm4 mentioned that we need to get together on New Years day again and do some shooting like we did last year, Hite Hollow anyone?

I would be interested but I don't know where Hite Hollow is.

Hite Hollow Shooting Range: Near Augusta Springs. This range is open from sunrise to sunset every day for firing rifles, pistols and shotguns at stationary targets. Moving targets such as clay pigeons and bottles are prohibited. From Staunton, take Route 254 west to Buffalo Gap, then Route 42 south about eight miles to Augusta Springs. Take Route 845 about a half-mile to Forest Development Road (FDR) 82, and follow this road about one mile to the range. (Deerfield Ranger District, 540-885-8028.)

As long as I dont have to work, Im there.

To sweeten the shoot, someone will win 100 match .223 rounds.

Rules to follow, mind you this will not be a easy win and the cost of these rounds equal 220.00 worth of match ammo.

I already have the new brass hand primed and setting in the loading block ready for powder and 69 grain HPBT bullets.

100 rounds, closest to my hand loads for theses run $220.00 per 100.

Rules are different for you, bring a pillow so your head has a rest.

Yeah these 230gr Gold Dots (G21) feel a lot like my 180gr 10mm Gold Dots that are doing 1400fps out of my G20.  Since I haven't shot my G20 since I've changed out the sights on it I won't be carrying it during the hunting season, I'll be carrying my S&W 629 Classic 5".

3. Five sighters and you must use .223 or 5.56 ammunition, box or reloads.

4. Firing will be done at 50 yards

5. Targets will be provided and graded by myself with a tie ending in a shoot off until the

Sounds like fun.  Count me in for the ammo shoot, someone's gotta content for last place.
Might bring a Garand and 1903 along just in case .223 isn't up to the task of clearing hangovers.

Newbie questions:
Time?
From map quest, looks like it's about 3 1/2 hrs from Fairfax, can anyone confirm?
Anything we need to bring beside weapons, ammo and targets?

Water since no fresh supply is near unless you want to lick the crick.

Very rural so munchies if you like need to be carried in before the range.

I usually make it in 2 hrs 45 minutes... + 15 minutes for gas/food.  Best bet is to figure on 3 hrs.
