After the Wheaton show I stopped by Midwest in DG. They had plenty of Wolf 223 steel case for $250. The 7.62*39 was $200. A few weeks ago, 223 was running $148 a case. WTF? Have ammo prices really gotten that bad?

Also, if any one has the inside scoop, what is going on at that store? Their new gun inventory has dropped dramatically and book section disappeared.

A year ago Midwest had a sale in May for 110 out the door for 7.62X39, and 130 for 223... Boy how times change.

Don't know if any of you saw the ads in the Sunday papers today, but Dick's has UMC .223 for $4.48 per 50 round box if you buy a case, which works out to $89.60 a case. Otherwise price is $4.98 per 50 round box. 500 rounds would only be $49.50.
The ad doesn't say how many grains the ammo is though.
Anyone ever shoot UMC .223?? Is it any good???

I went to the Dick's in Lombard today to get some of that UMC .223  I asked the guys working there and they said they haven't seen that ammo for months.  They had no clue what it was even though they had a sign on the wall for it. So I was given a rain check and told that they would call if they ever got it in.

I have a feeling it was a typo in the ad and its for 20rd. box not 50.  $90 for a 1000 rounds just seems too good to be true.

Both Gander Mountain (SE WI) and Bass Pro (Gurnee) yesterday had 250 round UMC "value packs".  IIRC the price was around $58.xx.   I bought some WWB Q3131 instead at $4.50 for 20 rounds.

UMC is decent but slightly underpowered compared to M193 or M855 military stuff. I use it for duty/training.

UMC comes in 20 round boxes - a case is 200 rounds, 10 boxes per case.

$44.80 per case or $224/1000. A little high but not bad.

That's the UMC stuff. I've never had a problem with it. That's a fair (but not great) price.

+1 I like the stuff and have never had a problem with it.

I keep buying a box or two every week to "put away" for a rainy day. For some reason, I don't think Wolf is a good SHTF ammo

IT shoots GREAT... I got 2K of it a couple months back, and finally got to shoot some of it 2 weeks ago.

It's all polished and pretty, too.

I haven't had any problems...I've got some ammo at the UPS terminal waiting for me to pick it up right now.

If I have my way, I'm going to "make" my next batch of ammo though.
