So, my neighbor's dad knocks on my door a few minutes ago.

"I heard you were in to guns and I wanted to show you these" He hands me a .30 carbine. "That was mine in the army"

"Very cool, where'd you carry it?"

"Germany, Belgium, France.... pretty much the whole war..."

Was cool to have my hands on a bit of history like that....

All Underwood.
BBL is stamped 11-42.
"High wood" forearm stock.
"I"-cut buttstock.
Non-adjustable, 2 aperature, flip-type "L" rear sight.
No bayonet lug.

In other words, a very early M1 Carbine.
The caveat--the serial number has been changed at some point in its life. Most likely it was re-imported from an overseas depot. Usually the serial numbers are all numeric in a ####### format. Mine's X###.

There's some issues of failure to feed / extract nowadays, so she's pretty much a safe queen. I did bring it to the GF shoot that featured Snoop Dogg and special guest Christina Aguilera, however.
