I wonder if some heat would help with the butt plate. Maybe boil it and try pressing it into the stock a few rime to help it curve.

N. C. Ordinance has 2 types of reproduction buttplates for '97s.  Brownells sell a satin aerosol stock finish that I really like. Gun Sav'r, it's in a yellow color can.
Your gun is a Black Diamond trap model. It is worth spending a little more money and time refurbishing it. I would strip that urethane off and fit the buttplate, sand with at least 320 grit sanding the edges of the buttplate to exactly fit the stock then use a stain and filler like Brownells French Red (it will bring out the grain) then rub it down with 0000 steel wool then remove the buttplate, thread one of the buttplate screws in part way, use a wire or string to hang it from a clothesline or tree limb on a warm sunny day and apply 4-5 light coats of the Gun Sav'r an hour or two apart. Steel wooling in between coats as needed. Let it hang overnight after the final coat to fully dry.
I think you'll be happy with the way it turns out.

The ring that the mag tube goes through is split, but looks like it's supposed to be that way. (Beveled edges).

Didn't want to say it until I got home & could physically check one since my brain is being blah. But the ring / collar / support for the mag tube is supposed to be solid. Not split. The bevel on the outside is where the arm for the pump rides through into the receiver.

Since God only knows when the damage occurred & that particular spot ain't kaboom pressure bearing, should probably be just fine. On the other hand, I'd be happy to repair it for you if you'd like. That particular part can be obtained, but it's a pain sometimes.

This is off of a very late production gun. 1955 or 1956, I forget which.

Coming along right nice.

Could buff the wood with 0000 steel wool between coats. That'd knock down the high spots & even out the sheen a good bit.

I picked one of those up at a garage sale a few years ago. The seller also had a Norinco Mak90. Bought both guns for $600. I need to go re-research the Serial Number on the Winchester. I forget when it was manufactured.
