I competed at the Battalion-level Soldier of the Month board today ...
And won.  So in February I go to the Soldier of the Quarter board.

Well, it doesn't really matter what my rank used to be. Just that, currently, I am not an NCO, Officer, or SPC(P).
The grand prize ... a BN coin, and another board. The Soldier of the Quarter board convenes in February. Hopefully I won't be able to go because I intend to have hard stripes by then (not that there's terribly much I can do about it). For those not in the know, the SOM board is kinda like a promotion board. If you don't know what the SOM board is, you probably also don't know what a promotion board is like. Basically, it's a combination of a job interview and a trivia show. You come in, dressed up in your Class A's, report to the Sergeant Major, and get marched around some. Then you sit down and get asked a bunch of questions. You get scored based on your appearance, technical knowledge, and confidence. |

Congratulations, that's quite the big deal. And it sure won't hurt your promotion chances!
And for you civilians it's NOT like being checker of the month.  ETA: The whale will be along soon to brag about his illustrious career. |

I haven't heard head nor tail about an ARCOM or an AAM or anything of the like. That might happen at the Regimental or Corps/Post level board, but I don't think it's even a thought down at this level.
