 Mark Oaten resigns over rent boy claims (Filed: 21/01/2006) Mark Oaten has resigned as the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman amid scandal over an alleged affair with a rent boy. Oaten: 'errors of judgement' In a statement, the 41-year-old father of two apologised for the "embarrassment" he had caused to his family and party. News of the World managing editor Stuart Kuttner said that Mr Oaten's announcement came after he was confronted with details of an alleged affair with a 26-year-old rent boy by the paper's reporters. In a statement tonight, Mr Oaten said: "I have stood down as home affairs spokesman for the party. I would like to apologise for errors of judgement in personal behaviour and for the embarrassment caused, firstly to my family but also to my friends, my constituents and my party." Mr Oaten's announcement is another massive blow for the party already reeling after Charles Kennedy was forced to quit just two weeks ago after admitting he had a drink problem. I heard this guy only last week on the radio, when he ws asked about any skeletons in his closet, his reply was " chocolate, Is my only vice ! "

I don't remember(too young ) the Thorpe Case but I personaly knew John Le Mesurier(not the one from Dads Army) and he gave me many insights into the events that surrounded the case and Norman scott . I lived opposite him and played cards with him and a few other cronies in the local pub. My bedroom was even used by the press when the SHTF for their covert paparazzi (before I lived there) The common where the money was exchanged for the "deed" I used to drive past most days and chuckle. There was one dog(Rinka) harmed/despatched during the "event" but you'll be pleased to know it was not shot by a JBT copperTaffy |
