For the people I meet at the "Frozen Buckeye Shoot" I will see you again down in KY and for new people i hope to meet you there

Is this more of a show or a shoot? I wouldnt mind going and meeting some of the other AR15.com guys but after looking at their site this doesn't appear to be a casual event. I read something about shooting positions being reserved too, what does that mean? I'd like to play with some FA's but I imagine that will be over fast and I'd still like to be able to shoot my own stuff. Oh, and what day do you expect most of the fun will be? I'd probably only be able to make it Saturday.

I'll be there on Friday. I've been going since the early to mid 90's and used to always go on Saturday. I started going on Friday because it was much less crowded. Now it seems everyone else has the same idea as Friday's have been packed the last few shoots. I've been fortunate enough to spend Thursdays there when the vendors are setting up. You can really find some smoking deals then, but it seems they've been cracking-down on Thursday shoppers. You can only get it on Thursday if you are a dealer or vendor.
Friday is not the day to go if you want to see the night shoot as there isn't one on Friday. Personally, I just go for the show and may only spend 3 minutes or so watching the shooters on the range. Lately, there have been less and less shooters on Friday. If you or anyone else reading this has never been, here are a couple of tips: – Wear comfortable shoes. If there's rain in the forecast, wear comfortable shoes that you don't mind getting muddy. Bring an extra pair of shoes to wear home and a plastic bag to put your muddy shoes in. – Bring a small gym bag or backpack. There are lots of deals and you'll need a way to carry your new found treasures. – Bring a bottle or two of water and maybe a snack. They sell food there, but it's not cheap. – Bring a digital camera if you have one and/or a pad of paper and a pen. It always helps to document cool stuff you see. – Bring earplugs. The range is right next to the show. – Might also want to bring a small towel or hand wipes if you will be looking at parts sets or used militaria. Lot's of stuff is covered in grease or cosmoline. – Bring lots of cash. This is the place to find the best deals on all kinds of militaria. Make a list before you go of the things you are looking for. It's easy to forget something when there is so much cool stuff to take in. – Check the weather forecast before you go. It seems the weather at these shows is always either rainy and muddy or dry and dusty. Don't forget a jacket. The weather will cool down after the sun dissappears, but more importantly, the barn where the shoot is held can be much colder than anywhere else. – You can rent a "mule" to get ammo or other heavy items back to your vehicle. Oh, did I mention you will have to park a MILE away if you attend on Saturday? Have fun! Cincylance |

If this is your first time to the Creek, forget about bringing any guns. The shooting spots on the upper range are all taken and there is a waiting list of people waiting for a shooting spot that is a mile long. Some have been on the list for over ten years! On Saturdays the lower range has rental machineguns or you can rent a spot to shoot your own stuff down there, but save yourself the trouble and don't bring anything this first time. There is also a subgun match happening, but you would have already had to pre-register for that. This is THE pinnacle of military gun shows and shoots. It isn't a casual get together shoot or show. Folks travel from around the world to attend the Creek. Many of the legends in the machinegun world are there every year or have been there in past years. You will see things you've only seen in books and movies and lots of stuff you've never seen before. I always have to remind myself how LUCKY I am to be able to drive to this event in only a few hours time. There really isn't anything like it in the world. My advice is just to go and look. Take it all in. Then attend the Fall show/shoot with a better plan of what you want to accomplish while you are there. Cincylance |

It looks like this one could be a little wet, I would like to go but I think I may have to bail on this one. My schedule is getting more filled by the minute.

I'll be there all day Friday, and all the good deals will be in my truck before most of you guys get there Saturday.
Just kidding, all the good deals are gone early Thursday. If you've never been, do whatever it takes to get there. |
Heading out in the morning. Weather.com is still calling for wet weather, but warmer than last April at least.
Stop by the One Shot tent and say hi |
I thought thursday was vendors and pre register shooters and that the gun show aspect would not be open until friday morning. I will be there bright and early friday Pat's reloading here I come (supplier of 50 BMG fun stuff) |
Thursday is vendor set-up only, no public. That's when the smokin' deals get scarfed up. |
But as a pre register shooter could you buy gear or is it only the vendors who score the deals on thursday |
You really can't get in on Thursday as a shooter. Spots on the main line are tough to come by. Kenny has a waiting list of about ten years or so, depending on how fast people die off and how many don't just pass their spot along to friends. I've been on the list for about seven or eight years just for the hell of it and don't expect to make it to the top in my lifetime. If you're shooting in the subgun match, or any match, that doesn't do you any good as far as admission goes. You won't get in any earlier than anybody else as a competitor. Just remember, that Reising you're looking at for $4500 was probably bought by the dealer on Thursday for $2900! LOL |

Back from the Creek,
made the one day "hell run" with a buddy and we had a really good time as usual. Tons-o-cool stuff to buy and I got to handle a real german FG42. That was something special as I've only seen photos. Later that day the guy brought the rifle to the line and attempted to run it,,,,no go unfortunately. Was really cool to see some old friends and said hi to the One-Shot crew on my way through. Ended up buying a meteorite from Neil and a Ceiner .22 kit for my pistol from the man himself. Also managed to score a few Polish AK underfolder kits so look for them at the shows in the next month or so. The ammo selection this spring wasn't too good at all and the prices as expected were higher. I figure Pat's Reloading would be wiped out by Saturday morning at the rate that stuff was flying out the door. The only caliber in abundance was 7.62x54R. There wasn't anything too exotic on the line, only one minigun and the quad .50 was absent, was a nice smattering of early beltfeds though, always warms my heart to see those run cheers, Mike |
Sounds like last year. Only 2 miniguns from what I remember and no quad 50 as well.
