I'd like to find 100 to 300 acres of recreation land (hunting/camping) somewhere west of Austin.  Like to stay within 3 hours drive if possible.  When I do searches for ranch land for sale I get properties all over Texas.

Anybody have any suggestions of counties or areas west of Austin I should refine my search to see look at some of the "good" recreaton land?

My overall goal is a place with some form of hunting year-round.

Many thanks in advance....

I was just in the other "Hill Country" thread discussing similar issues.  I'd say take a look around Kerrville, Kerr County or Fredericksburg, Gillespie County.  Lot's of land for sale, but it sure don't come cheap anymore.  You can still find some good deals though if you look around hard enough.

We have a place about 15 miles outside of Kerrville and the hunting is great there.  We have Whitetail, Axis, Blackbuck, Hogs, Bobwhite Quail, Doves, Turkeys.....you name it.  Not to mention it really is a beautiful area.....I love it.

Recently saw pictures of a 1300 acre spread near Leakey and just had to drool.  I wish I had that kind of coin to drop.

Look for water. Cheap land within a three hour drive is going to be a bit difficult.  Heck, land out towards Rocksprings has doubled in price recently.

What search engine are you using?  I know that there is a "farm & ranch" search engine that will let you search by region, and one of the regions is hill country (with a bit of flat stuff thrown in).  I don't have a link to that website on this PC, but I'll try to dig it up when I'm back in Austin on the weekend.

Try this on too. You can search by county and size of property.

Good luck.
