Thanks

Everywhere around is high as hell. I'm in bloomington, too many liberals aroud here gunshops at nuts. The gunshop in seymour is bass pro and there is acme sports. Both insanely priced, $175 and up for 7.62x39.

my 2 cents
Link Posted: 2/11/2007 4:37:08 PM EST
2 cents taken . I think acme was the one I had heard of.

Sorry bro, but the fact of the matter is ammo is drying up and price is climbing up. Wholesale on both .223 and 7.62x39 has climbed to $171.50 after the new year's pricing.....I know this for a fact.

Yeah, I remember a year ago when I could get it shipped to my door for $90 but times have changed.

buckfever, no disrespect intended but you are REALLY wrong. Joe there at ACME is good people but if you guys are honestly paying $171.50 WHOLESALE for wolf get a new supplier. Southern Ohio gun(southernohiogun.com) has ass tons of wolf for $144.50(which can be CLEARLY seen in the FEB. 2007 SOG catalog) for a single case and even more off if you buy 10+ cases which is what my dealer just did and I picked up 5 cases. To original poster, if you don't want to get it from SOG, aimsurplus.com has LOADS AND LOADS of golden tiger for $149.99. This whole "DEALER wolf price increase after jan 1st 07" is complete BS. Granted ammo is high, but I've been paying consistently 137-144.50 for the last 3 months. Dealer might be increasing it on their end, but the wholesaler's haven't raised it more then MAYBE 5-7$. Don't believe the hype.

If Acme is buying it at 171.50 then what are you guys selling to the public for?

*BEGIN ammo rant* Not intended as a personal attack so I'm sorry if you took it as such. What I speak are FACTS, look around there is another supplier at 132$ a case of WOLF MC. These "prices increases" didn't happen, maybe dealers decided they needed to get rich and raised the prices, but at the wholesale level, there wasn't an increase and I've got 4 wholesaler's catalogs from Nov 06 to Feb 07 to back up my claims. Not to mention aimsurplus who openly advertises their ammo which can be found here http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Golden_Tiger_7.62x39_124grn_FMJ.html
Gunshow prices are always ridiculous, a sucker is born every minute.....

To the orgiginal poster, here is a link to the most comprehensive ammo price list on the entire internet. Some places may be out of stock but would be worth trying: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=222888

So, who is the best wholesaler to go through? Who has it in stock and the cheapest after delivery? Obviously, JSC is not the one to use for such.

For surplus 5.56, I hit trial dust out on 45 West of town...

for pistol ammo I compare MCSports and ammoman.com

MCSports has ammoman beat on 9mm =D

Example, 2-3 weeks ago, BLOOMINGTON gunshow, 7.62x39 golden tiger $190/1000rds
NORTH VERNON gunshow last weekend, GOLDEN TIGER $210/1000rds
Same gun show, WOLF MC $220/1000rds

And we both know where that ammo came from, on the high end it cost AT MOST $149.99, on the low end, 132$ OTD. You do the math. There was no 'wholesale" increase, just a nice little dealer induced "OH NO 7.62x39 is drying up!!!!!!" increase which we all know is complete bullshit. The last time I checked the US GOVERNMENT wasn't on contract with WOLF or GOLDEN TIGER nor have they EVER used them in combat or given iraqi troops of the new government WOLF/GOLDEN TIGER/wtf ever.

I rest my case.

TO POSTER: I'd suggest getting a 10/22 and plinking with that. I don't know what you shoot .223 or 7.62x39 but we can all agree its high as hell even at a wholesale level. Go down to the range in north vernon and pick up brass for handgun loads and reload that if you are shooting pistols. I do that and use lead from local tire stores to cast bullets. Keeps my cost very very low.

I can't speak to the Russian 7.62x39, but there most certainly have been multiple price increases on other brands/types of ammo across the boards at the distributor level over the last 12 months. Either that or my Winchester, Remington and Federal factory reps have all been lying to me...

The last time I checked the US GOVERNMENT wasn't on contract with WOLF or GOLDEN TIGER nor have they EVER used them in combat or given iraqi troops of the new government WOLF/GOLDEN TIGER/wtf ever.

"Last time you checked?" Who did you "check" with? I don't know about Iraq, but a co-worker of mine came back from A-Stan last year and said the US Gov had shipped a ton of Wolf 7.62x39 over there, for training and equipping the Afghan army and national police. I wouldn't have believed him, but he showed me a pic of him sitting on a couple pallets of the stuff to prove it...

We're talking surplus here, not American made overpriced ammo. Of course its high, its been over $6 a box forever. If you want to pay $400 a case for it, GO for it. I'm talking surplus.

The US might be USING wolf to train with, just like I might be using it to shoot tin cans with. All of this "All of the 7.62x39" is going to IRAQ is bullshit/ ALL THE 7.62x39 is drying up/ oh no the sky is falling. Maybe there is some in afghanistan, hell maybe there is some in Seymour Indiana. The point is, IRAQ doesn't need 7.62x39 take a look around saddam was the biggest pack rat ever. These was some price increase in 7.62x39 I'll give you that. But I'm clearly stating the point the price in november 2006 from Feb 2007(OBVIOUSLY after Jan 1st. 2007) did not increase. The hype is at the dealer level, not the wholesale level. If this price increase was apparent with specifically mentioned "WOLF", wouldn't my wholesaler mention that and up my FFLs price? Every warehouse I've seen was packed with 7.62x39 there is no shortage. Hell if half of what was said in this thread was true why would people still be selling 7.62x39 for $149.99 or $160shipped and still be making profit? According to this thread 7.62x39 SHOULD be $220+ a case if he's stating dealer price is 171.50...What is ACME selling it for buckfever?

Email from friend currently in IRAQ:

"Well, all the ammo I saw looked like old military production russian with weird cerrilic
writing from the 50s. But it would be hard to tell if it was russian or iraq made, they did make their own ammo. but i can say for a fact it wasn't
commercial wolf they were using, and we didn't train the iraqi army, just the iraqi
police... Also he may have had all that ammo but it was looted like the rest of the
munitions that we see getting shot at us daily. It is in the hands of militia groups and
insurgents. it was old prod russian milsurp definetly not present
day wolf. whoever says there is wolf in present day iraq has never been to iraq and is talking out their ass. its all iraqi rolled ammo why would we or the insurgents need wolf?."

Granted ammo is high, but I've been paying consistently 137-144.50 for the last 3 months.

Direct me to the place where I can buy .223 for $137 to my door. More than likely, I will buy all that my gun fund will allow.

Price increase of ammo is hype at the dealer level?

It is not just about about ammo, it is also about the precious metals being used. Hence the reason I stoked up on extra copper wire over a year ago. Same goes for brass.

I haven't seen decent ammo prices in over a year. Econ 101 tells me that with high prices, there should be supply coming out of the woodwork, but that isn't happening. I went to 2 chain sports stores today. Wolf 7.69x39, $4/box, .223 was out of this world, $7 and up. At a gun shop last month, I paid $5/box for .223 UMC & was happy to get it.

Of course the price hike at the dealer level is hype, otherwise we wouldn't have $140 ammo being sold for $200+ by dealers for pure profit. Whats even funnier is this "After jan 1st price increase" bullshit... The next thing you know 5.45x39 will be "DRYING UP" and will be selling at a steal of $180 a case....right

Listen man, I wanted to keep deflecting the fact that you are making me out to be some sort of liar but you leave me no choice. I will take/tolerate many things but someone calling me out as "lying" doesn't fly with me.

Like I mentioned earlier, the wholesale prices I mentioned are with ONE wholesaler and if you give me your address I will make a photocopy of the before and after price hike at the wholesale level with this one particular wholesaler and send it to you to settle you calling me a fucking liar.

You want proof? I can provide it. Therefore, before you start posting that I'm full of shit or lying to my fellow Arfcommers you need to know where I'm coming from. It seems that the other few members that have chimed in here all agree that the price increase is universal.

Come on, guys. We've got two gentlemen who work for Indiana gun shops (Shooter521 and Buckfever34) who both say that ammo prices have increased at the wholesale level. I consider both to be friends and see them in person multiple times a year and would trust what they tell me. Let's keep it civil on both sides and stick together as gun owners.

Haha, wait till I get out of law school, I will get me a couple of those :) Agreed, I was just giving an alternative to the unreal prices currently. I understand everyone wants to get rich, but that doesn't make it right. Pissing contest over.

HoosierFire,

All people here are entitled to their own views/opinions as they should be. This is the right that is guaranteed by our Constitution right before the right that we can keep and bear arms, but since you mention you are a law student I need not waste your time nor mine elaborating on that.

Where you ran into a problem is by getting personal on an otherwise civil discussion about a guy's ability to buy some ammo at a fair market price. The link to the comprehensive chart above is far and away the original poster's best source, as this link is updated monthly by a very valuable member of the site, Brillo.

No one in their right mind can make a valid argument that ammo has not become harder to find and more expensive over the last several months. You can go to the ammunition link under the AR-15 forums and see comprehensive charts and graphs displaying the climb in prices over time. I never lied to you about any of the information I had been exposed to, nor did I have a reason to. What would it be to me? I stated several times that the wholesaler I was quoting a price on may or may not be the best resource, but what I said was true and I have the artifacts to back that up.

I come to this site to try to share and learn information, give and receive insights, and most importantly check up on individuals that I consider friends that are all brought together because we share common interests.

You never, ever had any reason to call me a liar, or state that I am full of "bullshit." This is not what we do here; we have no reason to. As gun owners we are all a segment of society that must stick together, not try to drag one another down.

Wow.. this went straight down the tubes here
I guess I should have clarified it with no possible margins for errors. I dont mind paying a little extra to help a local guy. So paying rock bottom wholesale prices isnt my main thrust of this thread. I was mainly looking for a local supplier of surplus ammo I could hit up once a month or so for 500 rounds or less. If the prices for ammo around this region are so far out of wack Ill ship some in from one of the wholesalers. I do appreciate all the responses and help.

Dumb enough to teach real Attorneys how to negotiate. You know, the ones who are not in school pretending. Once you graduate and then actually accomplish something, then you might be considered an adult?

It is not about being technically correct. We all know where you got your ammo and chances are most have spent a lot more money with those parties then you have, it is just about putting you in your place when you piss on someone in here. When you make noise looking for attention and someone asks you a direct question, answer it.

Well of course! The precious metals people are in collusion with the ammo dealers.

I publish industrial (wholesale) catalogs for a living. I'm working on updating a customer's catalog right now, and prices on copper wire and such in his 2007 edition have gone up 300% since 2005.

In our business, paper and ink go up annually too, and ink prices spiked last year due to skyrocketing petroleum costs. Oh teh noes!! The conspiracy continues!

Link Posted: 2/13/2007 11:53:19 AM EST
It's absurd or at least naive to quote prices from a printed flyer as confirmation that actual ammunition is currently available at that price.

As far as AK ammo goes, AIM Surplus currently (13FEB07 at 16:53 EST) has three brands ranging from $150-$160 per 1000 rounds:

7.62x39mm Ammunition at AIM Surplus

I throw up a little when I think of paying $160 for a case of steel case, Russian manufactured AK ammo. It's just . . . wrong.

Yeah and when you gradeeate and quit living off your Mommy, you can trade in your BB gun and get a real gun that goes boom-boom since your Mommy was afraid of guns and never let you have one.

Then instead of "collecting" ammo, you can actually use it.

So the likely story is fartifre came into some ammo and was trying to make some money. He read a few things on the web and thought he was an expert, as many legal types do, tripped in here, insulted known members and got a real education.

The best legal minds will remind you, expert in some things, not in all things. It is hard for a personality and ego like yours, but if you master it now, it will benefit you later. I would be willing to coach you on it, for free.

Is this where buckfever gets to say your ass was owned? You didn't sell any ammo to anyone.

Haha if that made one bit of sense I'd insult you. However, I realize the uneducated types (uh i darn went to ivy tech man i am edjumacated?) typically try to get abrasive. As far as "living off mommy", I'm on a full ride here and have been a business owner since age 14 so you can keep that remark :) . As far as a real education? I've owned firearms since I was 3 days old, and been involved with them all my life. The sad part is how most people interpret gun owners because of trash/hillbilly types like you. Many of my friends love firearms but wouldn't be caught dead on a public range associating with people like you. However, we'll leave that for another time. Buckfever didn't hand me my ass, he helped me sell my ammo and that I thank him for that. If he hadn't been so insistent I would have sold that ammo for $4.75 a box, but you know ammo is high so I must get rich like others :) An ego? No need to intrepret me like that. I just have no time for old farts who think they know everything under the sun with an IQ that doesn't break 60.
As far as ammo sales

Hello,

I'd like 25 boxes ($8.50 x 25 boxes) of this if it's still available (what's the headstamp on the ammo). I also have a few boxes of Silver Bear 762x39 FMJ for trade. Please reply to complete any transaction.

Thanks
Derik

I guess some of us really can negotiate well. But if not, I'm sure Zoub can teach us how to

Zoub, little weirdo? Haha, alright billy bob...
