My favorite place in Dallas is Tokyo One  Actualy in Addison... All you can eat GREAT sushi.  www.tokyo-one.com/menu2.htm#sushi

This is where i take anyone visiting me.  The place is amazing it converts people that don't eat sushi.

Would love to know a better place if one exists.

Kinda pricey there for dinner (lunch is reasonable), but it's ok. There's decent sushi in Plano at the southwest corner of Preston and Park (or Parker?), and decent sushi in Irving at MacArthur and I-635 (can't remember the name, but it is next to the Pei Wei). I typically only eat sashimi.

I am ITCHING to do the sushi thing!   I'm willing to try about any culinary idea.   The only reason I haven't tried sushi is that I want to go with someone who can tell me what to order.  It's like caviar, you have good stuff, you have crappy stuff.

hrt4me, the one in Plano you're thinking about is Osaka. I don't like eating at the buffet sushi places, my MIL had a bad experience at Tokyo One. We don't eat there anymore.

Osaka is pretty darn good though, fish is fresh and the hibachi is decently stocked. Dinner is more expensive than lunch but offers more.

My fave is still Sushi Rock in Plano, I like the Americanized atmosphere, and the sushi bar guys are  pretty hip. Not a buffet though.

Depends on your personal tastes....I'm a very picky eater. My wife started me out with ebi (butterfly shrimp, wassabi, and rice) then California rolls (rice, avocado, cucumber, carrot, seaweed).

Crab roll is easy as is salmon, cucumber and others. My son LOVES salmon roe................<ugh> If you like caviar, that would be right up your alley.

Other things on the menu would be squid, sea urchin, octopus, tofu, blowfish and hrt's fave sashimi (salmon, tuna).

Hope the wife don't read this, or we're eating sushi on Sunday.

You haven't lived until you've eaten the smoked eel "Catapillar Roll" at Nakamoto (75 & Parker in Plano, behind Burlington Coat Fac.)

There are two Sushi Rock places, one over near 75, and the other in north Plano.

have not been...but was told by close friends that love their sushi, that Nobu near downtown is the best sushi place. Very pricey but very good they say.

I think the other one they like is Bluefish?

Ahh...just saw your post USMC_1983-89...that's the one.

My mother used to make sushi and sashimi at home when I was growing up.  She is also the one that told me the correct translation from Japanese to English for sushi is bait.

It's been a while since we had a DFW dinner; sounds like a sushi place might be a good choice, provided they have options for newcomers or those who don't like sushi...

I eat at the Blue Fish in Irving (114 and MacArthur) about once a week. The food is great, priced right in a great environment. I had a bad experience at Nobu, although I must say that some of their mixed Japanese-Peruvian dishes are innovative and tasty...nonetheless for the money, I would rather eat at Blue Fish three times than Nobu once.

I recommend Teppo for sushi and yakitori (grilled meats).  The restaurant is located in Lower Greenville.  I enjoy going to Japanese restaurants where the sushi chefs are Japanese.

Kyoto by Lake Ray Hubbard in Rowlett is pretty good for Sushi and Sashimi.  I do know what you mean about Tokyo One.  It has a great variety and always seems to have fresh sushi.

Went to Tokyo One for dinner last night with my wife and kid.  It was pretty damn good.  A large variety of sushi, sashimi, tempura, grilled meats, soups, salads, fruit and deserts.

The sushi was very fresh and the variety was quite good.  If you wanted something that they didn't already have prepared, they would gladly make it for you (my kid loves Unagi).

WELL worth the $25 per adult.

If the lunch buffet is half as good, then $15 will be quite a bargain!

Is Tokyo One similar in concept to the Todai restaurant that used to be in Willow Bend Mall?  www.todai.com/

The lunch buffet at Tokyo One is good also, just not quite as varied the selection as during dinner (that's pretty much the rule at most sushi buffets). Todai is a chain, and I find they're all pretty good; I've tried them in Las Vegas and on both coasts.

I've never been to Tokyo One, I don't even think I have seen the building.  I used to go to the Todai at Willow Bend, but I believe it closed at least 4 years ago.  I didn;t know if TO was buffet for lunch then a set menu in the evening or buffet also.

We went to Tokyo One on Monday, after Dave's post.  My wife really enjoyed it, actually sampled some of the bait they had out.  I'm probably a bit jaded about Japanese restaurants since my mother had several and my godmother runs one in Ft. Worth.  One thing about Tokyo One did get to me....in the display they have a plate of plastic gyoza...they did not have gyoza or any dumpling type food on the line.

I went for dinner Monday night.  I haven't been to my godmother's restaurant since...97 or 98.  Not even sure she still runs it, she'd be in her early 80s....or if the place is even open any more.  It's Japanese Palace on Hwy 80 way out by Las Vegas Trail.
