I'm buying a mini-14 no flash hider or bayo-lug, plain wood stock w/ some light scratches on the stock, all the blueing is flawless. Friends tell me it runs perfect and is well taken care of. 2) 5rnd 3) 20rnd mags (not sure if they are factory) for $325. I thought it sounded good but I havn't been around mini's much so...

Listen to ACman! I'd follow his advice on that Mini14 or most other guns! (But not on women and drinking!)

unless its the mini I used to own,

one way to tell for sure is to take it inside of a barn, shoot mag full through it, go check and see if any of the bullets hit the wall, if any did then its not my old mini.

Yeah, that made up my mind on one I was looking at in the Zanders catalog,,,,combine your experience with mine from working in the state prison, and I think we have a consensus that those things suck...

man mine was as reliable as hell, it just wasn't accurate, I'da had to put the end of the barrel on something then pulled the trigger for the bullet to hit it,

I'd buy another one, if I could get it cheap, like next to nothing.

I hear a lot of people repeat this same thing a lot. However, I never had a problem out of a friends that I fired. The Mini-14 that I used to have (before I lost it in the boating accident) was plenty accurate for social work.

mine was so bad I thought it was the sights, so I put a scope on it, same thing,

then I did actually think it was operator error, so I had other shooters try it,

they got the same patterns,

I tried every brand of 55gr to 64gr 223 I could get my hands on, didn't make a difference,

6 to 10inch five shot groups were the norm,

the dude I traded it to kept it for a bit, then traded it off for the same reason.

If you guys are interested, I'll be glad to tell you how to bring a Mini14 down to  2.5" to 3.5" 100yd groups for around $35 and a little work. I've done it to two Mini14s and it's worked both times.

Thanks for the offer Dan, if I ever fall, bump my head and again think I can't do without a mini14, I'll give you a call, because I know my luck and I'd end up with one with worse accuracy than my old one.

A flash hider on the end will cut a lot of the barrel whip, giving more consistant accuracy. A simple piece of plastic, thickness dependant on the rifle, placed behind the sight under the receiver, between the metal and wood/fiberglass, with the trigger assembly unlocked, then locked, will make the rifle tighter shooting.
The gas cap assembly, if evenly torqued, or all four screws equally tightened in cross hatching pattern, will also tighten up the grouping.
A trigger job on a Garand, M14, or Mini14 takes about twenty minutes tops, not accounting for "readjustment" of the secondary sear if you get too rambunctious. That is a little too complicated to discribe here but easily done with common tools.
