Taffy,

Do you know anyone currently making a straight pull MP5?

There was a Swiss one I've seen but only very few were made before production ceased.

The only info I had about them was that they were removed from circulation and the dealer was publicly flogged...OK maybe not but he had his collar felt.

Taffy

HK ought to realise there's a market out there

Wally

My next rifle will be a .303 when funds permit
I can pick a nice one up for around £200 (sometimes with reloading gear)

Well, the 9mm's were available from Southern Gun, we are in the process of building and designing our own model. It's a bit fraught at the moment though.

.45's are a different story as there is no bolt head available for our purposes in the UK.

Not sure about the Socom as I don't know what the parent case is.

The 6.8 is a dead duck.

a couple of us are working on a "Super-Secret" gallery rifle project at present.
More later

James,

Nice try, but there is no .308 bolt head for the AR

All I will say is that it will have superior ballistics to a 9mm and more punching power than a .45.
It will be suitable for short range gallery rifle stuff and medium range target shooting.
It will have high capacity and reliability as well as accuracy.

Keep on guessing...............

The AR 10 bolt head is totally different from an AR15 bolt.
It's much larger and won't fit an AR15 carrier.
And the AR10 carrier won't fit either

The Beowulf might be a goer some time in the future, but not from any of us.

One thing that most people don't realise about cartridges like the .50 Beowulf is the availability of bullets as they will probably have to be soft-point bullets

Nope - and I don't think they'll ever be any straight pull H&Ks in the UK...

The ones that were imported were made by Brugger & Thomet in Switzerland,. The conversion wasn't very good, and the Police said 'You must be joking!' (or something similar as the collar was felt!). H&K then told B&T that if they supplied any parts to make unlicenced MP5 copies their licence to build MP5s would be revoked. End of straight pull MP5 idea.....

Having said that, a 10mm MP5 would be uber-cool!!

Then why dont HK do it themselves(ensuring it is UK legal)....there's a market there for them without even having to manufacture new tooling to make them.

9mm Luger

For the simple reason they (UK Gov and HK) don't want UK civilians having access to these firearms in any form.

The (big) problem would be converting the roller-locking delayed blowback to something that was manually operated (and not easily converted back).

there would be nothing to stop you making an MP5 knockoff using a modified AR15 bolt setup

Pistol caliber straight pull para Fal??

I think the ultimate would be a straight pull Minimi!!! the range nazi's would love that!!!

It would just be a replica, and a very poor one at that.
Besides any MP5 variant with a longer than std barrel just looks ridiculous.

The MP5 thing is not going to happen

Pistol caliber straight pull para Fal??

Nope

I thought this thread was about things that could be realistically attainable.

Anyway, as for the Super Secret Gallery rifle project...
here is a teaser......

hmmm, I spy a case forming die. That suggests a bottlneck case.

Now to quote streetfighter, "It will be suitable for short range gallery rifle stuff and medium range target shooting. It will have high capacity and reliability as well as accuracy."

the 'gallery rifle' rules out most c/f rifle cartridges (too much velocity). The high capacity is a big clue - its gotta use existing mags.

Something based around a re-formed 7.62x39 case?

This is starting to bug me

It will be perfectly legal for GR events.

My .30BR has similar forming dies but that would be OTT for gallery shooting.

.308x1 1/2 would again be OTT

.30 Herret would give you more poke than .30M1 but probably not enough to make the forming worthwhile?

.30 Kurz?

Anything bigger than .30 wouldnt have the legs for 200 yards

We are to assume its a rimless case?

Buggered if I know, show us the numbers on the dieshard

Apart from the over-power factor, the BR case doesn't lend itself to hi-cap feeding.

It's a 30 M1 carbine necked down to 223 on a "lever" action AR15. (pistol grip cocking). The M1 carbine mags and lever action already work and the necked down case should give fairly respectable ballistics.

The other Mark,

I finally signed up. Now I just have to figure out how to stick my self portrait up with my details and I'll be flying!

That's nice

You might get there eventually..................................or you might not.
Or I might have to tell you, but to do that, I'd have to get permission from the other half in this project, and I don't think either of us are ready to do that yet.

You must all be really frustrated

One clue though....It has nothing to do with .30 carbine or even 7.62x39
