If we can't use it to get everyone on the same page for trades, sales, or to see if everyone
wants to go in on a bulk or "group buy".....

Don't ask local joe if he wants to buy your shotgun this weekend, thread may get locked!

I understand your point and can’t say I disagree.  I was even one of the guys who responded to Gacop’s Kimber group-buy thread.  I personally didn’t view the thread as a dealer trying to advertise his products on the board without paying the dealers fees.  I viewed the thread as a local guy who has a part time job at a gun store trying to get his buddies a good deal because of his connections.  But, I was wrong to let the thread exist because the rules DO forbid any for sale adds in any place other than the Equipment Exchange.  The rules also forbid “group buy” type topics.  Not my web site and they aren’t my rules.  I can either accept the rules or decide I don’t want to hang around.

I have several items I want to sell but really prefer trying to sell the items to local members.  The EE is now setup to filter just the local members, but many guys don’t make it a point to check out the EE.  A few times each week now I check the Georgia-filtered EE just to see what’s for sale.

Maybe we could have a swap meet at a group shoot or something.  We just need to figure out a way of keeping up our “network” without blatantly violating the rules.

I'm pissed it got locked. I never posted prices or certain products for sale. That's why I wanted to do it through IM. I'm still going to do it guys. Just IM me and let me know what you want. I was just trying to save yall some money. We're not making a dime off of it. The prices I'm giving you are straight from the Kimber Master Dealer price list. Gun sales are slow now and it was just an easier way to come up with my annual qualification order.

Yeah, they'll see me in chaps the same day you wear chaps!!

I'd post a nice pic of Rogue from Xmen, but this thread would get locked as a BOTD...

I've met very many great people through this web site.  Many of you I consider friends.  For friends, I would lay down my life.  I mean that, very sincerely.  I do for my friends what I can.  I mean that.  (Those of you who know me personally, know that.)

This is NOT my web site.  I can obey this site's rules or leave.

I love this web site.  For through it, I have met you.

We can share opportunities and ventures through this site.  I will help show you how we can together do that and still not violate the site rules.  The site rules exist to protect us ALL.  We can still share information without violating the site's rules.

I'll provide more information tomorrow.

That is all.  Go to bed now, children.

The rules also forbid “group buy” type topics.

I could have sworn I have seen some of these for things like lighters, etc.

Yep.  Some of those "group buys" were already in process before the rule got made.  That's why they were allowed to continue.  If you have information to the contrary, please share it with me.

i'm with you guys and have bookhounds back in the mod forum on this.

It boils down to ADMIN is afraid some moron will not understand the difference in several folks using this as a communication point rather than an AR15 sanctioned group buy. They don't want any liability or BOARD issues if something goes wrong.

If they are concerned with this, then why the fuck is the EE still up and running?

What is the difference between a guy saying "Hey buddies, I work at a gun store, and as a gesture of comradery (and because sales are slow), I will sell you any gun/any gun made by xxxx/any pistol/any rifle/any shotgun/whatever for cost/cost + $10/cost + $25/whatever" and having an ENTIRE FORUM dedicated to essentially the same thing - but on a LARGER scale?

If it's okay to DEDICATE an ON-SITE forum to people wanting to sell guns, parts, and accessories across state lines and NOT be concerned with liability issues, then it is hypocrisy, stubbornness, stupidity, or some combination of all of the above to forbid someone from doing the same for just the local guys in his state in the hometown forum.

the difference is that the EE is HEAVILY moderated. the thought process is that if a member is screwing folks over it will be found MUCH more quickly there than having to watch 30+ forums, All with different mods, that may not be aware of a problem in the other forums.

I'm not saying it's the best solution, frankly i don't know what is. But that is how STAFF has decided they want to do it.

I see no better "moderation" than the fact we would be buying from someone we know face to face.
If this person were to "rip us off", we can drive over to their house and exact revenge face to face.
Plus, that would be rare. We all know each other for the most part.
We all go shooting together or other local activities.
I will follow the rules, but I'll still bitch all I want.

Maybe we should host a GA "Group Buy" Forum on another server??????
I would help code it if this were to happen.

What good is the Hometown Forum you ask...to make contacts...trade information...go shooting...shoot the shit. If someone wants/needs to do a favor by offering a good price to locals, do so. For pete's sakes, the fucking thread only got locked, it is still there, we can all see who is offering Kimbers at a great price. Take it off-line, oh wait...no one has email, no one has a phone, no one ever gets together to shoot...wait a fucking minute!!! We all DO!!! It might not be as easy, but jeebus, we could still do it. What a bunch of whiners, or is that wieners.

There, I feel sooooooo much better. Leave it to Capt. Obvious to finally say it out loud.

Shit, one post closer to 2k and still no idea...

oh yeah, I think a group buy is something like the lighters that can be personalized and stuff like that. This Kimber sale would not be what I consider a group buy...my 2¢.

I still think an off-arfcom GA Only "memo" site would be cool. Then all of the penny-anti bullshit could be avoided.

we used to have that for alabama. whatever you do DON'T set it up on YAHOO Groups. They have gone to hardcore advertising and the porn spam was simply overwhelming.

You are preaching to the choir here. I agree with letting local guys horse trade amognst themselves here but it ain't the MODS site.

Changes do happen around here if the members make it an issue. Send a few emails and get some support from us unwashed masses.

How much bandwidth a month would a small memo board use?

Is there some free software we could use to make it go?

I have a website I don't use much, but it won't stand a huge amount of bandwidth usage.  I guess I could chase all this info down, was hoping someone could save some search time.

Here is a board I just did.  Use AR15.com as a pass word, you probably have to register a screen name. Yoy can do that here:

http://www.aimoo.com/join.cfm

Not trying to steal anyone's thunder, this looked simple to do.

Enjoy.....

For free soft I was thinking of PHP, but I have plenty of soft. Just need a server, not a big one.
Kind of like the_reject's image server......

I'll check your site, if it's already done, no problem using yours.
