Well, this is going to be one interesting class. It's ~3 hours one day per week for 12 weeks. Last night's class included a tour of the Public Safety Training Academy building, including demonstrations of the Crown Vic driving simulator and the PRIsim encounter simulator.

The PRIsim (pronounced prism) is in a room with a giant video screen on the wall, and an instructor chooses how a pre-programmed scene plays out based on your verbal commands to the actors onscreen. You have a Simunition Glock, and the instructor has a joystick-controlled turret that fires balls on single shot or full auto, so when someone onscreen opens up on you, you can actually get hit.

In future classes, we will be visiting Animal Control, Cobb County Jail, 911 Center, the Cobb Police Firing Range (complete with range time), the Medical Examiner's Office, one session of personal defense training, etc.

And it's free! If you're living in Cobb County and interested in signing up for a future class, drop an email to Lt. Terri Blackmer at terri.blackmer@cobbcounty.org

Hmmm, I wonder if this is the class my buddy is taking. Its Tuesdays from like 6 to 9 or something. Free class, public safety. He said that its a LEO that gives the class.

He said that there was not much going on in the class but talk (but very informative)
... No visiting Animal Control, Cobb County Jail, 911 Center, the Cobb Police Firing Range...

I think this week was his 3rd or 4th class.

Apparently there is also a similar class given by Marietta law enforcement, but it's not nearly as hands-on. They're actually going to suit us up in firemen's bunker gear and have us run around in the fire training building to see how hard it is. We also get a demonstration from K-9, bomb squad, and SWAT one night. All for free!

This class is 6 to 9 on Wednesdays.

Last night was the Citizens Police Academy in Gwinnett. I had to pass on the class because I would have missed about four classes. I have been told the Snellville class is very hands on with range time and Police Ride-Alongs.
