Well, this is going to be one interesting class. It's ~3 hours one day per week for 12 weeks. Last night's class included a tour of the Public Safety Training Academy building, including demonstrations of the Crown Vic driving simulator and the PRIsim encounter simulator.
The PRIsim (pronounced prism) is in a room with a giant video screen on the wall, and an instructor chooses how a pre-programmed scene plays out based on your verbal commands to the actors onscreen. You have a Simunition Glock, and the instructor has a joystick-controlled turret that fires balls on single shot or full auto, so when someone onscreen opens up on you, you can actually get hit.
In future classes, we will be visiting Animal Control, Cobb County Jail, 911 Center, the Cobb Police Firing Range (complete with range time), the Medical Examiner's Office, one session of personal defense training, etc.
And it's free! If you're living in Cobb County and interested in signing up for a future class, drop an email to Lt. Terri Blackmer at
