My wife, 2 kids (5,7) and myself are coming to Hawaii and we are spending 4 days of it on Oahu mainly to go see pearl harbor.  We have never stayed on Oaho and I was hoping to get a little info.

What is a safe area to stay that has decent access to a beach?  I won't be carrying so I am hoping to stack the odds in my favor by staying in a good area?

If you know of anywhere to stay that is sub 200 and in a good area I'd be stoked for a heads up.  Had planned on trying to do Pearl Harbor, Sea Life Park, Wet and Wild Water Park.  (Or others if better options).

Also, are there any restrictions on what knives I can carry?

Thanks

Got friends or family on Oahu? Staying on Wakiki would fit the requirement but  do no know what are the current prices on the hotel rooms.  Probably, stay off the beach and walk couple of blocks would be an option to look at too and maybe a tad cheaper.  The Pacific Army museum is at Fort DeRusy which is at the west end of Wakiki beach close to the Hilton Hawaii village.

If you are going to Pearl, you also got the Pacfic Air museum on Ford Island and the USS Missouri there too besides the Arizona and Bowfin.  Just a friendly note, the Arizona is real popular it is best to get there very early in the morning.

Downtown, you got the Iolani Place, Maritime, and the Missonary House Museums there too.  Punchbowl Cementary is close to the area but need to drive around the area to get there.

Miliani area you got the Dole maze.

North Shore-Matsumoto shave ice and the beaches and surf up there.  No big surf until the fall/winter time.

East End- Blowhole/Koko Head public firing range and Haunamua Bay (You need to pay to get in this one).

Probably the best and safest beach on the island is Kailua.  Very kid friendly and there are lots of places to eat lunch or dinner there as well.

If you decide to stay in Hawaii, my house in Kailua goes on the market this weekend.

Long story.  Short version - bought a few acres on the Hamakua coast of the Big Island a few years ago, wife moved over full time and works as a Vet in Kamuela, my office is in Kailua so I'm here during the week and there most weekends.  I moved into an apartment in Kailua since we figured the house would sell faster if my ugly okole wasn't in it.
