It is all well and fine to yell burn the witch, but there is a lot more to this case then most people are looking at. This is not just simply a case of a soldier missing a movement, or slandering his chain of command, He made the statements that the war in Iraq is illegal, and that he as an officer in the United States Military has an obligation to disobey/refuse such orders. I think he is guilty of missing movements, and looking like a turd to his troops and should pay as such, but his side is going to make this court marshall into a debate on the legality of the war...That is his whole defence... The commander of Ft Lewis is in a pickle, He can stop this in it's tracks at this point, or go on with it... You cant let the Lt get away with what he did, but by going forward with the court marshal he is going to open a can or worms that wont be able to be put back into the can, and will be able to be used later down the road in the future.
It is the Lt's and any other soldier's duty to disobey an unlawful order...That is a good thing, The Lt has already said that he would be willing to serve in Asskrakastan..( I doubt he would, but that is just me..I think he is a moron), this court marshal will come down to wether or not that order was indeed lawfull to the Lt or not, was he doing his job and just made a huge mistake in judgement or not?...( I say lawfull order/legal war.) The Lt's team has some heavy hitters for their side also.
I am on the side that the war is legal, and the order should stand, but who knows how this will turn out, he may just get off because he may have been doing the right thing with the facts he was given..... It's the military..and anyone that knows anything about the military also knows that some weird shit goes on sometimes and it is just easier to roll with it.
