I received this by email today.   I don't know if it's legit or urban legend, but here it is:

Date: Thu, 5 May 2005 01:09:58 -0400

FROM A FRIEND...

Let your friends & family know that the NJ State Troopers will be out in force for TRAFFIC CONTROL starting next week. (For about a month)

My friend is going on overtime for TRAFFIC CONTROL.   Unmarked cars will be patrolling...

Route 1,

Route 130,

Route 280,

Route 80,

Route 78,

Route 24,

Garden State Parkway

and the Turnpike

for speeders during commuting periods starting next week for about a month.

He and other troopers are being paid OVERTIME to participate and are expected to write a lot of tickets. DO NOT SPEED!

Pass this on to your friends, family, and coworkers!

Are these tactics used to make the roads safer or generate revenue? Is it for us or them? -Justin

Revenue - they don't chase "moonshiners" so they get the motorist. During April we saw definitely more PD across the board.

Probably correct. Last night on Ch.7 news there was a story about toll violators at the Sayerville plaza. They are out in force sending tickets through the mail for toll violations. I guess the NJSP have nothing better to do. Great use of OUR tax dollars, huh???

Yup, generate MORE dollars, so they can hire MORE police to generate MORE dollars

I'm tempted to say this is urban legend, because it fits the type of typical forwarded e-mail, but I cannot find any info to confirm nor deny the e-mail.  Do any of you have a contact within the NJSP department?  I have Twsp. policeman as a friend and I will ask to see if he's heard anything and let you know.   Whether it is or not, you shouldn't have anything to worry about, cause we're all law abiding, safe travelers, RIGHT? I thought this was UL as well, but I noticed a sharp increase in trooper activity on the GSP in the early morning hours.

No mention there of 195 or 295 but I saw a shocking amount of troopers in the general 195/295 area yesterday and today.  (like, 5 of them set up in "hides" within about 3-4 miles)

Two unmarked blew by my, and I saw 2 regular squad cars (1 stopped, 1 hiding) on 295 North on my commute home between Cherry Hill and Lawrenceville......I've never seen more than 2 unless it's an accident.

+1

CBS 880 AM also did a story on this. The said the NJSP has dished out 1800 toll vilater summonses in the past two months, more than were issued all last year.

Good luck NJers.

I've seen a few more cops (marked and unmarked) on 295 in the last few days as well.  The odd thing is that very few actually had their radar on.

I commute daily on 295 from exits 19 to 10 on the southern most end of the highway and I rarely see any troopers during rush hour. After 9 am, they set up shop at the exits. Beware.

I see a lot of time every week on 80 around the netcong barracks.  The state police are eeeeeeverywhere up here.
They're using numerous unmarked cars of varying makes and models for the past 2-3 months.  I've seen a nondescript Impala and a black, tinted out Chevy SUV do stops.

Apparently someone realized a Crown Vic with everything but lightbar and decals doesn't make for the stealthiest unmarked car.

As for speeding, I do east in the morning, west at night.  65mph isn't a speed limit, it's a cruel reminder that I'm stuck in a congealed hell of minivans, BMW's, and Kerry stickers.

If your IQ is larger than your shoe size you will be among the intellectual elite of the NJSP. As part of your preliminary training I suggest you endeavor to forget the existence of the Bill of Rights. The NJSP has. The board COC obviates further exposition.

A few weeks ago I got a Laser alert with my Escort 8500 model radar detector.  I was traveling northbound on the GSP coming back from Edison.  I slowed down enough to tell that it was not a radar gun the trooper was holding out the window.  Are laser units in wide use in the state or was this maybe just a test?

ouch!  i wish it was that easy.  2% of the 5000 taking initial test will be selected to go to the academy.

5000 take test in june.  if u pass that you get invited to the physical test (1.5 mile run, situps, pushups).  if u pass that you go to the interview phase (weeds out a lot).  if you pass that you go thru background investigation.  if you pass that you get a conditional offer of employment.  you then must pass a full medical and full psych exam.  if you pass that you get invited to the academy.
so 5000 will start and 100 will be invited to academy....2%

then about 20-30% will quit the academy because it is too tough.   26 weeks of hell.

cant wait.

You know what the sad part is about this? This 2% is the best they have to offer. Over the years I've interacted with some of them. I've not met one I'd hire as a painter's helper on one of my crews. That's truly tragic.

I've seen more state troopers than usual over the last week on my trip from the Mass border to Albany NY. Anybody know if New York has officially stepped up enforcement recently?

It's  not about "loving" the NJSP. It's about respect. The NJSP has become a bunch of Nazi pissants. They don't respect those they are paid to protect and serve and they are likewise not respected by those same people. They are hated.
The best thing that could happen is for the NJSP to be summmarily fired en masse. At that point they would be eligible to reapply for their jobs. Maybe then we could get some that are not little Nazi bastards and who wish to protect and serve rather than dominate and control. Maybe 1/3 would be rehired but at a significantly lower pay scale. The remaining 2/3 might be rehired as a "bow and arrow" squad, sans weapons, to chalk tires or direct traffic in front of schools.
Sounds harsh? Those bastards deserve it and have earned it.
FWIW
YMMV

my comment, "no love for troopers", was intended as a humorous remark.  i guess im in the minority here but i dont understand the hatrid.  to compare the njsp to nazis is not only ridiculous but also lacking in taste.  once again thnx for the well wishes.

stay safe.

It's not ridiculous, it's true. You apparently have as little knowledge about the vermin you are attempting to join as you do about grammar, punctuation,  and syntax. You'll fit in fine. Like most kids, you don't know crap from crawfish.

Actually, I have dealt with them, but that's besides the point.

The way that YOU dealt with another member of this forum is out of line and unwarranted.

Not to continue this, but I just gotta ask.  What the heck is a crawfish remark??
