I'm moving to WY in a few weeks and wanted to ask some questions about obtaining a WY CCW.

The biggest question is about obtaining a "Photo copy of Firearms training certificate."

Does WY have it's own Firearms training class?  If not, will another state's firearm training class be good enough?  If I need to take a WY firearms training class, where do I find a instructor and schedule of classes?

Thanks for the info.

I took an NRA Concealed Carry Course, I don't think they have a specific WY course.

Thanks

Just as a heads up for you on getting you WY CCW license.  As soon as you get here you have to get your drivers license changed.  That is the date that the state will use to start your 6 month wait time.  I know this because I just recently moved back to WY and am in my 6 month residency waiting peroid.

Basically from the date of you get your WY DL you have to wait 6 months after that to be considered a resident to be able to apply for your permit.  That only applies to the CCW permit.  For resident hunting privledges you have to wait one year.

I was in Laramie for 3 months when I applied for my CCW.  Got it 30 days later.

But I did find this on the WY AG website.  Maybe I slipped through the cracks.

Is a resident of the United States and has been a resident of Wyoming for not less than six (6) months prior to filing the application. The Wyoming residency requirements of this paragraph do not apply to any person who holds a valid permit authorizing him to carry a concealed firearm authorized and issued by a governmental agency or entity in another state that recognizes Wyoming permits, is a valid statewide permit, and the state has laws similar to the provisions of this section, as determined by the attorney general, including a proper background check of the permit holder;

I found out the hard way and sent all of my stuff in to DCI once I got here and it was returned a few days later with a letter explaining about the 6 month thing.  Two weeks and counting now before I can resend mine in.

Had a North Dakota permit when we moved here & had a WY permit 90 days later

It takes the full 90 days before the Sheriff calls ya to pick up the permit. Seems DCI is really backlogged and slow in processing the permits.

Can you explain this?  So if I have a CCW from another state, then I don't have to wait the six months?

Thanks

I didn't think that Wyoming recognized ND permits.  If I read medicmandans post you have to have a permit that Wyoming recognizes.  Correct?  I know that they would not accept my Oregon or Washington permits since I submitted copies with my origional application.

When I moved down here I went to the Police department & they told me my ND CCW was valid, I then went across the street to the Sheriff's office & they told me the same thing

Check this site out for direct info :  http://attorneygeneral.state.wy.us/dci/CWP.html  for info on  your specific situation. It seems to take about 90 days to process the paperwork so don't give up. +1 on the change in driver license change - do it right away as after 30 days you are illegal.
