This thread needs a poll.

ETA- there's the poll!

I bought my first (SP1) assembled in 1985
I bought my secodn (6601) assembled in the early 90s I think.
Bought a used Bushmaster a few years ago.

Everything else has been from parts.

IBTP!

ETA:

I have a bakers dozen, the only one I didnt build is the beautiful SP1 I bought this year.

I will be building a few more in the next year or so, a 9mm, a .45, a pistol in both of those, a big bore- .458 SOCOM or .500 something and maybe even a pistol in that too.

You need to buy a lower, and a lower parts kit between now and the next LCR, and everyone will install one piece each in it around the fire while you walk the drunks around.

If we can mount a vise on something sturdy we can build the whole damn rifle

And you better do it real early or Sunday if sTumbleweed plans on helping.

Too true.

I have built 8 of my own, and assisted with 4 others...complete builds, not just slapping a upper on a lower and calling it done...

BTW: good poll, I am interested in how many of us do "roll our own".

Just one AR but many more to come, also built an AK and a FAL.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 4:49:05 PM EDT
Just one as of now. But more are planned

This one time...in a bar.....

I have only owned two AR-15 rifles. I am planning a 9mm AR Build and a AK build in the future.

I think the question was....

Ever build a AR?

Come on guys/gals this is a Scientific poll.

I think the next one will be the tenth.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 5:54:29 PM EDT
I have assembled some. I never really 'built' one. Need a mill...

Link Posted: 10/2/2005 6:09:02 PM EDT
does tightening the screws on the scope mount count as a build? If so, I've built a lot of guns.

Oh wait, I've also put the magazine in and taken it out. So I'm like way ahead of you clowns.

Link Posted: 10/2/2005 6:54:52 PM EDT
Do you consider buying an assembled upper and a stripped lower and putting the lower togeather a build? If yes, 1. I did buy a stripped MEGA upper and lower at the last funshow. I saw one of the recce rifles on here and decided I need one for myself, and the fun begins.

The last complete AR I bought was in 2000, and that was a sweet (and long gone) 1972 SP1.

I have one more AR in the building stages (however, the SNS lower went to the cornfield) and one of the ARFCOM SEBR coming to me.

All you need is a vice, and I am sure that Coyote could mount one on his trailer or CavVet could mount one on the tailgate of his truck.

I discussed something like this with 1GR but I never got around to buying a vise. I'm thinking build a stand to hold the vise that mounts to the reese type hitch. That way I could just lay it down in the bed of my truck when not in use.

I haven't and I need to. I think I'll do it within the next 2 months. I'll at least put the lower together, though I may buy a complete upper. One just isn't enough.

If you're going to build the lower be sure to install a RRA NM 2 Stage trigger. It's better than the stock trigger. It's easy to install and it's a sweet 3lb pull. Here's a link to a website where you can get the best price on it. http://www.triplebreakproducts.com/RRA/two_stage_trigger.htm

does trading for an AR then completely tearing it down and trading off the parts I didn't want off for the parts I did want count? then yes I have. Do I plan on building more? you bet you ass I do!

Yes. That is why I selected "no"

Ive seen more black rifles at an LCR shoot than any preceinct in western WA...why the build party??

Should do something more nistalgic like a Tommy or grease gun or even a B.A.R with a pistola grip on it...

Go crazy and make an AK kit chambered for 308 then Cav can have the ultimate BUMP-FIRE rifle.

Something to remember: The hammer can get stuck inside the pistol grip and you will claim that it is missing!! You'll then call up the guy you bought the LPK from and ask "WTF?" Later, the hammer will fall out of the PG, and you'll swear you looked for it in there.....
