cool. I live in the shotgun/handgun only part of the state so all they have to look out for from me is a 20 gauge Ithaca

I just got my license and have never gone out, but here's a question, can a 20 gauge take a buck? If so, Walmart here I come. Not a fan of the 12 gauge but I can learn. |

sorry for the late response, I checked yesterday but was at work so I didn't log in
if shot in the vital areas a 20 gauge should take down a buck based on the experiences of the people in my dad's hunting camp, some of whom use 20 gauge. I haven't shot a buck yet with one though.

I hunt the January Long Island shotgun extensively. Between myself and several friends I have seen deer taken with every slug in every gauge. While 20 gauge works it is not as effective as 12 gauge. The 20 gauge 2 3/4" Remington Slugger/ foster style slugs are marginal. The Federal 3" foster style slugs are much better and the 20 gauge 2 3/4" copper solids work great. IMHO. MIKE.

my preference for my shotgun area i shoot in is an 870 express 12g with rifled deer barrel and either remington or winchester supreme partition gold sabot slugs ... 2 3/4, 385 grain .. 1900 fps ..
