Where do I start on how bad ROBAR sucks? I know they have a stellar reputation, but I, and several other's I know, have been screwed by them. They area big operation, and I post this only to illustrate that even the people who get the great write up in the mags can screw you.
The first problem was a duty gun (Glock) that I wanted a grip reduction on. I specified and paid for removal of the finger grooves. It was estimated to take 6 weeks. It took 12, by which time I just wanted my gun back. When I pointed out that they did not do the reduction on the front, the desk lady lied to my face, saying they did, and that they don't completely remove the finger grooves. When I asked for a refund of that portion of the reduction, she said that they could not do it, since they performed the reduction. She said they would be happy to further reduce it at no charge, but it would be another 12 weeks. I took my gun and left, like an idiot.
The next time I had a problem, I took a duty weapon in there for NP3. I carried it on my body without a holster while working undercover, and though blued, it did not rust. They estimated 6 weeks. After 5 months, I started calling. The female desk person (red head, name escapes me), said she would look into it. I never got return calls, and each time I called, she said she would have someone call me back right away. I called at least a dozen times, got the run around for weeks, and when I finally got my gun back, I found out that they plated the gun without removing the front tritium sight. They had to wait for a custom one to made, and did not tell me. To make it worse, the gun was heavily rusted in two days. I was told that it was my body chemistry, and that they could do nothing for me. I called bullsh*t on that, and asked that they either re-do the gun, or strip it. They said they would do either at original cost.
My friend took in a custom 1911 that I built for him. He had it Roguarded and NP3ed, and when he got it back, there were a few bubbles in it. They also Roguarded parts that were supposed to be NP3ed. He was displeased, wondering how they would have let it out of the shop like this. Robbie Barkmann inspects it, and insures it will be done right. He gets it back, and the Roguard rubs off the slide edges after he inserts it once and removes it from a new Galco leather holster. He was told this was normal wear, outside of the warranty.
An aquaintance send in his HK P7M13 for Roguard. He gets it back, and it does not function. It won't even cock. He takes it to a smith since he no longer trusts Robar. He finds out that the coating is so thick on the internals that the gun will not cock.
I have more stories, but all I can say is this. If you have a problem with a company, it's how they handle it that makes all the difference in the world. Robar does not handle it's mistakes very well.
