Suspects Sought In Mall Parking Lot Robberies

(Virginia Beach, VA) -- Virginia Beach police are asking for the public's help in investigating a series of armed robberies at the Lynnhaven Mall. Police report, the incidents occurred on December 3rd and December 12th and all but one robbery occurred near the AMC Theaters. On December 3rd, two black males and one white male robbed a man at gunpoint as he walked to his car. About 15-minutes later, two men robbed another man and his girlfriend in the same area. Just five-minutes after that a woman was robbed as she walked to her car near Dillards and the movie theater. On Monday, the thieves struck again when three men robbed another man that was collecting for the Salvation Army in the Walmart parking lot. The suspects committed a mob assault on the victim and took his personal property and the Salvation Army's collection container by force. About six-hours later, a lone suspect robbed a man near Dillards. All of the suspects are in their late teens to early 20s and were seen fleeing the area in a dark colored four-door car. Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Crime Line.

I would think these guys would run right into the cops, 15 minutes late in the same parking lot ??????Lynnhaven Mall was the first mall I stopped going to due to the rules on no CCW. I hope they enjoy the bad press

Ironically Lynnhaven Mall doesn't want CCP holders to carry in their mall yet they seem unable to stop criminals from robbing their customers. I refuse to go that shithole for this very reason. Two robberies within 5 minutes of each other...what a joke.

If you go to thier website, you will notice a small area where it says "contact us" ...there you can write them an email note.

I HIGHLY suggest you express your disdain for their ANTI-CCW rules by posting a comment there. I did earlier today.

That mall sucks.  If mywife has to go, I go with her.   They don't 'allow' concealed carry, but I know people do.   If they ask you to leave, then so be it.  I hope they lose tons of business.

How do they express their opposition to CCW?

Are there "no weapons" signs posted at every entrance?

They have "No Firearms" signs at a few of the entrances. If I do go there (haven't been in over a year) I go through Barnes & Noble because there are no signs. I've probably written them two dozen emails since a VCDL member made this observation and I have yet to receive a reply

Oh well, no big loss but I told the wife about the robberies and not only is she not spending any of my her money there but she wants to get her CCP!

That's good news about your wife.  Mine hasn't come that far... yet.

I imagine that if I read more signs at the entrances to businesses, I might find more that are anti-gun...

Penn & Teller's episode on Gun Control convinced mine to get her permit.

Can someone who lives close verify the 'no guns' signs at Lynnhaven Mall?  I know it used to be posted, but a VCDL member sent me an email and said that they quitely dropped thei r 'no guns' signs after a flurry of protest that VCDL initiated last year.  Perhaps we won and didn't know it.  I have seen that happen before where the store just quietly changes policies.

Here is the email I received:

"I was not sure if you were aware of all of the problems with robberies of patrons at Lynnhaven Mall. A few months ago (probably last year) I alterted VCDL about the No concealed weapon signs posted outside of Lynnhaven Mall. Someone with VCDL took the task at hand and a letter writing campaign started. I am not sure how much influence VCDL had but the signs were removed a few months later. Now that the 2005 Christmas season is upon us there have been a reported 5 robberies in a very short time
outside of Lynnhaven Mall in the parking lots. These robbers are apparently targeting anyone (according to the news). I thought that if you checked into this that it might make an interesting article for the news letter to make those of us that shop there to be aware, especially since the issue of NO CONCEALED WEAPONS was an issue there at one time."

I'll verify it today after work.

I shot them 3 e-mails a while back so that would be great if they just droppped the policy.

I didn't get by there after work because I forgot the wife had a class to teach @ 6 so I had to hurry home from the office. I'll swing by tomorrow and report back tomorrow evening.

<and of course, I'll be carrying>

Great!  I would like confirmation as I want to discuss this in VA-ALERT this weekend and if those signs are down, then the discussion will go one way and if they are up it will go another direction.

Springfield Mall would benefit from a wake-up call as well.

VCDL member as well, you know me since I was the one who found the names and addresses of the Freelance Star reporters that were responsible for the CC list.

Yes - that is on rag that is very hard to figure out.  They do anti gun things like that, then print some very pro-gun articles and commentaries...

"No firearms or weapons allowed on mall property"

The signs are only at the direct mall entrances. They are not posted at the department store entrances or at the Barnes & Noble entrance. They do not include any indication about CCP holders, one way or the other.

I walked around the entire mall and in that time the only security I saw was an empty vehicle parked in front of the WAVY TV10 news van that was on hand doing a story about the robberies.

OK - thanks for your time.  That determines how I am going to approach the story...
