Ed is the best 'black rifle' gunsmith in the Houston area, IMHO.

he's damn good but to be honest you don't have to be a gun smith to do 99% of the work needed to fix black rifles.

thank you for your reply's, I'm just worried about my AR. I do all the work on my guns, I just don't have the equipment to recontour the Bbl or to thread the Bbl.

Ed was "builing flat top ar's out of A2's before there was an A3 flat top! His work is A#1, and I am a customer from way back. Good luck!

Best way to reach him is by email from his website. He'll respond back.

Do not, I repeat, do not just drive over to his shop because he'll most likely not let you in. He's particular, but does fantastic work.

or call him.  (281) 480-3180
you may almost certainly need to leave a message but he will call you back.

he's already got my rifle, he called me after four days(mon), he said it would be three weeks, he left me a message to call him(i was at night class) and I can't get anyone at the offie to pick up,  I dont know if there is a problem or not, so I'm kinda freaked.

He's got a great reputation as a gunsmith.
However, I don't know if smithing is his only line of work.  I think I read in a post
on the falfiles that he also works full time in one of the local chemical plants but,
I could be mistaken.  Just something that I "think" I know.

There is a security gate in the industrial park where his shop is also.  He'll give you the code if you call.  I think that he does have a "job" also.  Ed always makes an appointment with me if I need something done, and then I stop by.  Great guy, and some of the best work I've seen.

i get that feeling also.
i know he does something during the day and he is the only one in the office.  he runs the shop by apt only and there is know one to answer phones.

don't get freaky.  Wait 4-5 weeks before calling him again.
give him time to do a good job.

Anybody had him work on their AK? I need some work done. (Unlike AR's, AK's aren't always "black guns"    .)

Ed  has done work on 3  FAL's & 1  AR15 for me.

If I had more money I'd have him build me more stuff !!

He does good work, I just wish his shop wasn't all the way across town from me.

VaniB , I don't think he does AK work,  just AR's, FAL's, 870's, & 1911's, oh and bolt guns

I asked him about working on my ak, he said he doesnt do ak's. I don't suggest you use global trades, they're the bastards that made me need to ask about it in the first place.

what did Global Trades do/not do??

Thanks for all of the kind words guys.  I do work two full-time jobs.  When my wife decided to get a graduate degree, it required my taking a second job.  Seems like most households can't make it on one income anymore.  0800-1700 Mon-Fri I am the Job Placement Coordinator at San Jacinto College-Central.  Early mornings (0400-0700), evenings, and weekends I'm in my shop, about 45 hours per week.  These days I am the only full-time employee at the gun shop.  I have another machinist besides myself and two Jarheads (one AirWinger and one ForceRecon) who come in and do some part-time stuff for me.

I also have quite a few law enforcement customers who work undercover.  They do not like to do business in public using their real IDs.  I respect their privacy as it is an important part of their being able to do their job safely.

So there you have it.  "By Appointment" is the only way that I can reasonably meet everyone's needs.

Thanks again,

E

OK then, he doesn't work on Ak's . (I assume not, being he avoided the topic.)

Can anybody name me somebone in Houston that works on AK's? Having to ship guns  out is a hassel and to be avoided if possible. I've got  a simple enough job of putting on an ultimak mount,  but don't want some clown to scratch the crap out of my new ArsenalNevada pre94 SASM7.

Surely somebody in this big town must work on Ak's?

Try Arsenal USA (Global Trades) in South Houston.  They build some of the best AK's
