Anyone know what needs to be done to carry in SC on my Virginia permit?
Is there a way around SC not accepting the VA CCW permit?

From everything I've read so far, SC does not reciprocate (sp) with Va even though SC is accepted here in Va.
thanks in advance and I hope that came out right.h.gif

Other choice is to buy the smallest piece of real property you can afford and then you can apply for a SC CCW.

Only protection I'm aware of is for travelling through the state, not residing there even if for a couple of days.  I travel regularly through SC from Georgia to NC and I contacted the SC DPS and got them to tell me how to travel through.  Their instruction was "loaded or unloaded in the center console or glove compartment"

I'm not a lawyer and neither was the person on the other end of the phone, and each LEO interprets laws differently so take this information with a huge amount of caution.  Also, do not speed in SC .  If you are pulled over you will either have to appear or have a lawyer appear for you, you cannot just mail in the payment for a fine you incur.  Plus, getting stopped could lead to a search should there be probable cause.  I would just refuse a search as is my right, but then again I'm an onery bastard with that sort of thing.  I would be polite and refuse a search, and they can bring as many supervisors as they want out and I'll still refuse the search.  Oh, but I absolutely would inform the officer that I have my weapon in the car if asked.  Do NOT lie about that as in SC you must inform LEO that you have a weapon.

Probably didn't help much, but sounds like you may need to leave you gun at home for this trip.

I'll just be traveling through butit sounds like I'll just be leaving it home. Best to be safe than sorry. (damned if that doesn't seem the contradiction in this case) Thanks for the info and help varmintkilla.

You're welcome.  The problem really is with the definition of travel, which is the same issue faced in Texas too IIRC.  Some may say it is a continuous journey, others may define it by the distance traveled from home, but I think you are doing the, can't believe I'm going to say it either, "right" thing leaving it home.  You could call DPS too in SC, they have a non-emergency number listed on their website and they put you through to the correct department and ask them.  Like I said though, that person may have a differing interpretation than another LEO.

Not sure how they would read it in my case.
going from Va to southern SC then back north the same day. 2-3 hour layover.
I'll just take the simpler route and leave it here.

Thanks again.
