Saw something I don't recall ever seeing before piggybacking up "the 405" yesterday.

Some quick interweb research:

Kenworth C500 Twin Steer (8x8) FTMFW

....the Ultimate Beast of Burden

I'm guessing the one I saw is going to be an oilfield truck or Logging rig. But I found some other models with Crane Beds, and lots of special purpose custom jobs to haul really big shit.

I just took a closer look at the one I saw on the road, and noticed the hitch over the rear axles; I did see some pics of dual tankers and log trucks.

I'll shoot the photo to my roommate, he may or may not work for Kenworth. I've seen photos of the truck (well one like it) before and they are badass.

I bet my son and I have watched it 100+ times.  I have it downloaded and he would come and climb up in my lap and ask to watch it.

I wonder how many parts of that truck are from China.

I'm a little confussed (although that's not unusal).

By calling it an 8X8 are you thinking that the twin steering axles are powered ??

I fail to see any differential casings in that area,
(but it might be possible to drive the front axles with some really large hydralic motors.)

If your just impressed by the twin steering axles,...........I've seen a fair number of them, concrete pumper trucks,
cement mixer, crane trucks and maybe even a fire engine ladder truck, all would be in the extra large size with
too much weight for a single steering axle.

YMMV

I didn't call it that, if you follow that hotlink, it takes you to the Kenworth spec sheet, they call it an 8x8...

Saw a couple concert trucks in my photo search as well.

Yesterday on a box of construction target staples, I noticed this.

It was one of those moments when I went WTF & LMAO both at the same time.

It may be getting close to FO time.

The brochure says it is available in 8x4, 8x6, and 8x8 configurations. So you would have to look at each truck to know how it was equipped.

I saw a couple of new trucks like this on their way to the oil fields when I was in Wyoming a couple of months ago.

Oshkosh is another manufacture that makes these huge oversize offroad trucks. The Army has been using trucks with twin steering axles, the HEMTT M977, M978, M984, etc, for nearly 30 years now.

Any of you Sky valley residents remember that enormous truck at the heavy equipment repair place just west of Startup?

Built in Mexico, designed in India. Get with the times!

I loves me some Oshkosh. Independent suspension, FTW!

That was right after they left the KW plant in Renton. I saw two of them pulling out of the plant as I was leaving work. I may be mistaken, but I think all they build there now are "Off Hiway" rigs like that.
