Get ready for The Big One

Guess I don't have much to worry about. Chances of earthquake in my area - 1/1,000,000.

Looks like things are pretty calm up around Mammoth and Convict Lake.  San Francisco appears to be still solidly attached.

Be interesting to watch the various reactions and news media if any place starts warming up, or if they miss a big one.

I do some volunteer communications support for Orange County EMS and one of the interesting questions that we ponder occasionally is - What would you do IF you got a fairly decent indication that a big one was going to hit  on the San Andreas in So. Cal?  We pretty much think the current consensus is to not announce because people are much saver in buildings  than they would be if they panicked into the streets, freeways and tried to get home or to the kids at school, etc..

And also say an 8 pointer hit around Parkfield or the Salton Sea, LA is going to get some rolls and that's about it.  A lot more people get killed in the warning panic than in the actual event.  Get mighty exciting on the top floor of the Morongo Casino Tower though.

All quiet on the Earthquake front


What ever happened to the big one predicted for Sept 04 by someone that was a well known predictor?  Don't think it happened.

There's nothing shaking in San Diego this morning except my ass because I'm running late.

Must be jelly cuz jam don't shake like that.

On a positive note, the San Gabrial mtns are moving 1" (every 5 years) closer to Los Angeles and will eventually squeeze the liberal shit out of the place... or just cause a 6.5-7.5 quake.

I've lived here for 3 years and never once felt an earthquake, even though we have them all the time.

I feel like I'm missing out.

Just wait for your first kinda big one.  Nothing like wondering what God is going to drop on your head when convinced Mother Nature is trying to kill you from below.

There are a lot of guys that think they brave for living in hurricane and tornado country.  Not saying those aren't  nasty, having been in a typhoon or two, but at least those give warnings of sorts.  The fun part about eq's is that absolute lack of warning.  It takes a special kind of person to put up with that.
