As a transplant to a state where honest citizens are not trusted by law enforcement, I really need to know what is legal. I hear a lot of different interpretations.

I have an explorer and a ranger. No trunks, no locking glove compartments.
Is it enough to have firearms cased and out of reach of the driver? or the driver and all passengers? (Tough to impossible in both vehicles)
Does everything have to be in locked cases? ammo too?

I shoot a lot of IPSC and IDPA. I am on the road with gun about every weekend. Usually with at least a couple of pistols and 1000 rounds or so of ammo. Had a CCW in KY, had to turn it in when I moved here.

Unloaded. Gun in a case, stored in the vehicle where it would theoretically require the driver to stop and get out to load and chamber a round. I travel with guns and ammo stored in separate cases/containers.
