Not sure where else to put this, since there's no HTF for Aussies or even a big general one like "Rest of the World".  Also, there's the off-chance that it has British origins and isn't just something they made up out of whole cloth.

My 2 year-old daughter is a huge fan of the ambiguously gay children's entertainers "The Wiggles".  These "blokes" are obviously Aussie (not Brit/English), and I can translate via context clues most of what they say, but this one has me stumped: "Beauty cobber."

I Googled it, and only returned about 49 results (most from msg boards), none of which helped any.

O wise one,
cobber = mate/friend/pal
beauty = good/superb/outsanding!

Thanks, lads (is that hamming too much?).

Any idear (that's Texan ) on the origin/etymology of "cobber"?

On one msgboard, I was saw "cobbers and cobberettes," IIRC.  It was something that had masculine/feminine versions.

And next week you will learn the real meaning of the word "pissed".
Ans it's nothing to do with being angry

So that's roughly the Texan equivalent of "piss drunk" or "piss-ass drunk"?

Thanks for all the help, folks.

So anyone want to take a stab at this next one?

A "wooly jumper"?

I looked in the slang dictionary and didn't find it.

My first night in England, I went to an Australlian pub in Brighton ( I was doing a study abroad program a few years ago when I was in college) and a guy there said you're pretty pissed aren't you? And I was a little confused and said I wasn't angry at all. That's when he explained to me that pissed means drunk there. That was my first experience of Brit English.

Cheers!
