ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Motorists who have breezed through the E-ZPass lane on the New York State Thruway have one last chance to pay up before their names are turned over to a collection agency.

That's according to officials at the Thruway Authority, which plans to hire a Saint Louise-based company to collect some of the 23 (m) million dollars in outstanding tolls and fees owed by motorists who violate E-ZPass rules.

But Thruway officials concede the state may wind up getting as little as one (m) million dollars after the collection agency takes its 21-percent cut and uncollectable bills are written off.

The company has worked with other transportation agencies including the Florida Turnpike, the California Department of Transportation and New York City's Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.

"Hi, I'm here to re-register my car..."
"Sorry sir, you have to first clear this outstanding EZPass bill you have on this plate.
We take cash or major credit cards, no checks. NEXT!"
Simple and effective, plus no cut to outside companys.
