At about 1525 today, I'm at work with the radio tuned to 710KIRO and I hear the EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM tones follwed by "This is not a drill"
F! NOT A DRILL?????????? I grab the get home bag and listen to find out what the emergency is so that I can decide which plan needs to be executed. This is the emergency:
 Not an erupting volcano Not a tidal wave Not an attack A broken 911 system..... |

EVERY time one of these go off on the radio, my ears perk up and I go into the prep mode and then it's most always a test. I have a get home bag that always stays within a hands grab at work.

I sure wasn't psyched about any of those possibilities. I have an "in case of fire" bag at home too and I'm sure not hoping for a fire just so I can use it. (grab that bag on the way out my burning apartment, it has everything from spare clothes to back up discs for my PC in it) My get home bag is a work in progress, but it's goal is to enable me to get home to where the rest of the goodies are so I can either bug out from there or hold in place. I'll just say that there is enough in the bag to get me through all of the zombies that might be in my way, change my clothes if I get too covered in zombie guts, fix a paper cut, and feed myself because zombie killing is hungry work. I still need to add air and shelter to it. |
