I know Whisper is going to kill me for this, but I'm seriously considering selling my M1A. I just don't think I need it and it is worth good money right now. I have 4 FALs and am about to build 2 or 3 more. I don't shoot it and if there were ever marauding hoards of meanies, it would not be the rifle I would grab.

Having said that, I do have a sentimental attachment to it. It is VERY accurate. With milsurp, it shoots less than 2 MOA and with commercial Federal hunting loads, its a genuine MOA shooter. I have a scout scope mounted on it and I really like that system. I've had it for 11 years so it is a pre-ban and it is built with GI parts (at least I think). Its a sweet rifle.

So... what is it worth? The barrel is marked with "M P" and the op rod had the original contractor mark ground off and replaced with "mfg" followed by a serial number. The trigger group is HR and the bolt is TRW. I have GI synthetic stock that I painted with a texture black paint. It wears a Burris scout scope. I also have about 25 Chineese mags and a BM59 folding stock that is new and has a beautiful grain that I just refinished. I have a spare trigger housing from TRW and I think I have a scope mount laying around somewhere.

I'd like to sell it as a group. I've got my eye on a Steyr Scout rifle and my hunch is, the whole package should go close to $2000 which just about covers the cost of the Steyr.

Whadda y'all think?

if you you want to move it i would drop the price a lot! i would say $1300 - 1400 for the rifle and 100 for the accessories. you may get more but it also may not move for several months.

$100 for 25 mags and a folding stock? Nope. I was actually figuring $1200 for the rifle with optics, $650-ish for the mags and $250 for the stock. $2000 is what I was thinking for the whole ball of wax.

Well.......I just sold my standard model pre-ban for $1375.00 with one mag, extra synthetic stock and bayonet.

I miss it, but not a whole lot. I'll replace it next year with a M1A Scout.

Like you said, you have FAL's that will do what needs doing and I'll bet you have a bunch of magazines for the FAL too.

$1375! Wow. And I recall you did that pretty quickly too didn't you? Hmmm....

Go smoke some crack instead you wacko.

(grumble, grumble.... FAL sicko... grumble grumble)

Just put the damn thing on the EE already and be done with it, and never ever let me hear 'man I should have kept that M1A', cause I swear to everything I hold holy that I will never let you hear the end of it.
I'll call you up in the middle of the night for a year straigt to say I told you so!!

You're probably better off selling it in the separate packages you mentioned, with a dicount if someone takes it all.

You have to figure that's a good price for all your stuff, but finding one guy who wants EXACTLY that, and has the money (actually we all want it, it's just most of us are broke), is going to be alot harder than finding one guy to take the gun, and several people to take the mags. If you price the mags right, they will disappear quick enough. Also the BM59 stock is totally cool, but if someone doesn't want it, then they'll likely balk at the price.

With it broken down into three packages, you have a better chance of selling it all because your target market is actually larger than if you're trying to sell it all in one shot.

Try it as a package first for a while. If you run across the right guy then you're set. If it doesn't sell, or you get offers on what would be a multi-pack, then you can try that out later.

$2000 is a good deal for all the stuff you're thinking of selling.

Well... after further thought on the matter, I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this. The rifle and mags are still worth a good amount of money. That may not be the case for too much longer, especially with the mags.

It is a totally redundant system in my safe. The only use I can see that could not be done with the FAL is service rifle matches. As accurate as this one is, it isn't a match grade one anyway.

I'll be taking a number of photos and on Thursday, I'll make a trip to the ex-wife's house so I can download them. I'll give y'all first shot at it because I've never shipped a firearm and I'd prefer a face to face deal.

Oh and Whisper... gun money stays gun money. This sale will finace the Steyr Scout.

I actually think you're doing the right thing Cliffy. The M1A is replaceable.

You will probably get alot of hits on the stock and magazines over at www.battlerifles.com. That's where alot of M14 guys hang.

Friend of mine bought a pre-ban M1A with a synthetic stock and 2 mags 1 el-cheapo , 1 USGI mag. For $1000 at the dale city gun show a year or 2 ago.
