Thinking about going with the wife and 11yo daughter sometime in August maybe. Anyone know where might be a good place to stay? I'm not looking for top of the line, just clean and maybe with breakfast included to save a few bucks.

Save your time, money, and effort and go to Chincoteague.

I figured OC would have the most for an 11yo to do. I also heard about wild horses that swim across a chanel or something like that. My daughter is a horse nut and would really enjoy seeing that.

pony swim is a special week, this year its on july 25th

the wild ponies are more visible at the north end in md. the ones in va are kept away from people, but can be seen at a distance.

oc is not a family environment anymore, not for over 20 years.
the boardwalk has gone way down hill

delaware beaches are better, chincoteague is the calmest of anyplace.

what type of things are you looking to do?

Work in OC, stay away! You can go to Disney for what OC will cost you. If you have to stay in OC an want cheaper family run, nice motels with kitchens. Shangri-La Motel 8400 Coastal Hwy an Beachcomber Motel 7500 Coastal Hwy.

Of the two I would pick Shagri-La first as they have a 24 hr desk. You could book on booking dot com but if you call you might find a better price (Beachcomber for sure).

Want to have more an better fun? Stay off the Island, look at Frontier Town :

My family loves OCMD. We usually do rentals so I'm not sure about hotels. However, wife and I stayed at the Grand Hotel and liked it - right on the boardwalk but up far enough to avoid some of the late night shenanigans. No breakfast though.

Highly recommend De Lazy Lizard and Backshore Brewing Company for places to dine. And a donut (or 12) from the Fractured Prune.

Hit Abby burger and tequila mockingbird for good inexpensive dinner.
