LOL!

Along a similar line, I was riding my bicycle on the beach bike path mid-January.  It was sunny and warm (75-80 deg) with a beautiful blue sky.  The air was clean and clear.  You could see to the horizon - Catalina Island, Topanga Canyon, you could see individual buildings as far away as Malibu.

Surf was up and the surfers were out in full force (by the hundreds) from Redondo to El Porto and points north.  Manhattan Beach volleyball courts were almost filled to summertime capacities.

Did you take the dogs to keep you safe from the snow and sea spiders?

While I have never done it the same calander day, I went from surfing one day, to skiing the next, then to the desert...

Never tried it.  Any decent snow days and the crowds head for the mountains and the roads can be very crowded and dangerous.  I remember one beautiful day having to explain to some folks why I had chains on my front wheels (full chain controls, even 4x4s, it was my Subaru or Montero, many years ago).  They were clueless as to why they go on the drive wheels.  Some of them didn't know which were their drive wheels.  And these folks are all trying to get to the snow, too.

I did it when I was living in Reno.  Left Reno in the morning and went up the hill to Sugar Bowl to ski.  Left at lunch and went to Monterey.  Ate dinner on the beach then drove home to the land of lower taxes and constitutional gun laws. lol.  You can enjoy California without living there full time and funding the liberal stupidity.  In all fairness I grew up in CA but got paroled in the mid 90's.  I make sure to be a good boy so I don't get sent back.  I do go back to visit friends and family that are still on the inside from time to time though.

This is the case for sure at say, Palomar Mountain, but IMO Big Bear usually gets enough snow that there isn't a huge rush up there.

I have always heard, "Where else but in CA that you can go from the mountains and snow in the morning and then to the beach in the afternoon"

The way I always heard it was "Where else can you ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon?". I always follow that up with "Do you ski?" and "Do you surf?". The answer is always "No".

Even if they did do both, what a colossal waste of money and time to get to the slopes for just one ski run so you can then haul ass to the beach for a mediocre wave or two at sunset and an empty gas tank.

Don't forget Massachusetts and NH.

Yes, NH touches the Atlantic.
