Had every intention of going out for a doe today, but the damned wu-flu finally got me.
I guess I got bonus weekend yet... |

It was insane in Logan County on Monday. I passed on a spike, 2 doe, and a decent 6 pointer, but my week was cut short for some personal business I had to take care of. I did manage to nail this doe with my .450 Bushmaster. I love this gun!

Have one more tag to fill gonna let it cooldown until extended good luck |

Yummm Dude you gotta share the details. Butterfly the back strap Stuffing: - Yellow onion and portobello mushrooms sauteed in bacon grease - diced jalapeno - cream cheese - parsley - crumbled bacon - salt and pepper Roll it up, then I wrapped the whole thing in bacon. About 30 minutes on the smoker at 350. Pulled at internal temp of 140 and let it rest before slicing. I basically followed this video, but added the jalapeno for some extra flavor. 10/10. Will be making again for Christmas. |

Anyone had any post gun season luck? I'm thinking I'd like to sit out for late season freezer filling, but time is not a luxury I currently have.

I got a crippled young doe on Friday. Missing one of its lower portion of the hind leg. Game warden was checking ages at the processor when I dropped it off. Less than a year old. Poor thing had a miserable life.

Might not be much compared to most of the deer on this side on the river, but for central WV, this is a big boy! And WV season, aside from muzzleloader, is over. They don't get big by coming around in daylight during season. Surprised he came out at daybreak.

My son got his first deer last Friday. We hunted the morning from separate stands with a few sightings but no good shots. In the afternoon we again hit the stands but nothing. At a little before 5 I went to his stand and we decided to walk around a little. We were heading down a trail and came over a small rise to see 2 bucks fighting 40 yards away. My son dropped to a knee but couldn't hold steady. He tried to go prone but the bucks caught some movement and took off. We went parallel to them and saw 1 moving on the edge of a field at around 100 yards away. He was cruising pretty fast so I hollered at it and it stopped. My son was able to stand and use a tree as a brace and shot it. I saw it take off and dip into the woods.
We get to where the deer was standing I don't see blood. We go into the woods a little and see that it goes down toward a small stream. I still don't see blood so I circle back to where the deer had been standing. I still don't see blood but my son is a good shooter and insisted he was dead on. I go back into the woods and spread out a little when I catch a glimpse of a white spot about 30 yards away. Bring up my scope and there is his deer. He hit both lungs dead center. Gun was a 350 legend in an AR platform. This is his second year hunting and I don't know who was happier, him or me. Attached File |

That’s a proud dad moment. I’m still waiting for my son to get his first buck. He’s only 8 but dang I’m itching for that moment. Last season he had a decent 6pt walk up to our tower blind at 10yds, I found myself having to “mechanically breath” I was so excited. He let his little 410ga bark and shot under the deer. I was bummed but it was a good teaching moment and he didn’t lose interest. Hunting with your kids is more exciting than hunting for yourself in my opinion. |

Think you could hunt sunday if you owned the land, or was a direct family member.

Quoted: Think you could hunt sunday if you owned the land, or was a direct family member. View Quote It's what got me into deer hunting. My dad never hunted deer as my grandmother wouldn't allow it on her property (they were few and far between when he was growing up). Fast forward to when we were growing up, and deer where everywhere (and now constantly eating grandma's garden goodies). My brother got into deer hunting with a family friend that was allowed to hunt for a bartered price on my parent's new roof materials. After they opened Sundays to landowners, my brother talked me into being his hunting partner since the family friend wasn't allowed. |

This X a million Couldn’t agree more watching my son shoot his first deer was “moving” to say the least, I love hunting but when we tracked his and he spun around and yelled “there it is” and he gave me the best hug a father could ever ask for, I want to give him the opportunity and if I can go it’s a bonus. At that moment his button buck was better than any wall hanger, his sense of pride and accomplishment was what it really is all about! |

Sat in the rain all afternoon and was able to take a button buck at about 4:30. Not a huge deer but I definitely need the meat. I was supposed to be working this weekend but am home on quarantine. Thanks China!

Saw two more on a neighboring property around 9am. Saw a freight train of deer (8) on my neighbors property through thermal this evening, nothing on our land. |

I hunted the morning, felt like crap so I took a nap and skipped the evening.
The weather looks much better tomorrow. |

Couldn't get out this weekend... Saturday was a turd anyways
the wife was just killing with the do this and do that before Xmas. Oh Well muzzle loader is next up. then back to bow |
|
Well I tried to he golf ball skinning method on this last deer. I might have had better luck doing it right away but I waited a day and one of the front shoulders ripped off with the hide. I think I'll go back to skinning by hand.

Well it just didn't work to get either of the kids out this year. I've got feed in the feeder, but I'm not going to buy another tag until I get confirmation there is another deer around. This year has been interesting.....

14 deg start for Muzzle loader ... Are you F-ing kidding me...

I dumped 100 lbs of corn total in 2 locations.
I could wuss out and sit in the blind with heater or tough it out in the stand and no heat, better chance on getting shot off in stand. |

Quoted: Heater, all day, everyday, twice on Sunday. View Quote I have a deep cycle battery running two heated blankets in my folding chair. Keeps me much warmer than the two or three different propane heaters I've tried. Quieter too. I just put a solar panel out there I will be using next year as the two blankets and my phone charger will run a 100a battery down in two days. |

I know it's Walmart, but I picked one of these up and it was a game changer this year in the cold.

Update.. Now 9* for the low Im gonna wuss, Its the heat for me now
|
|
I'm showing 17 degrees at sunrise on Saturday.... I'd love to hunt from the blind but I failed at cutting some shooting lanes around it, so I'll be tougung it out from the tree stand.
Hopefully they found my corn pile |

You guys are better men than I am. Between this nagging chest cold, and the weather, I'm sitting this one out. I'm not sure if I need my crossbow retuned, or if there's something wrong with the scope, so I might be done for the season.

Good luck to all, I will be rooting for you guys from my couch while consuming some tasty libations!

Good luck all, I decided I’m done, pulled my blind, rather went to pull it and it was gone. Had to do some walking to find it blown into a corner of the field. Luckily no damage and only lost one stake.
Pulled my cams and the blind off my stand as well. I’m beginning prep for next year. Including putting a hoist and butchering set up in my shed. Hope anyone that has tags can fill em. Good luck, stay warm, and go get em boys. |

I sleep on the couch down in the family room on the days I hunt early. dont want to wake the mrs. Its not pretty when I do.
Well got up at 5 AM and my dog was on the end of the couch and on top of the blankets, I didn't want to wake her, so I went back to sleep, and nothing to do with being 9 deg outside, nothing at all I will be out this afternoon when it's 40* |

View Quote Hoist Should do the job, only issue is the control cord is short so I have to buy a length of 4 wire to make it long enough for my application. Besides that it’ll work just fine. I’m planning on mounting it to a piece of super strut so I can slide it a few feet each way if needed. |
