Not today the wife has me on oven duty...

But me and Sadie (the dog) will be out hunting Pheasants in the AM tomorrow...

Just got back from filling the feeders.  May take my youngest out tomorrow for his first experience.  I figure he will do way better in the blind before he really gets into it and can handle sitting still in a stand.

I imagine there wasn't much movement today.  The guys who subscribe to the "You can't shoot any deer from the couch" philosophy probably didn't do much except burn a spot 3 days ahead of gun season.  This is probably the best weather for gun season we've had since...2017?  I'm not digging into my beef jerky supply to sit in miserable weather like we had today.

How long you guys let a spot "rest" between uses?

My buddy found his deer this morning!  Thankfully it was cold overnight and the coyotes didn't find it first.  Public land monster.

Lol, 60 would be sweet.
I was on 2 but I just got permission for 16 more attached to it, so about 18 total.

That is a beauty, congrats on him finding it! How did he see his sight when he obviously is missing a head? Lol, or I have to find that kind of camo head net because it’s really really good

I've been trying to find information about the management permits. Can you point me to a resource or message me details about how to get them? Thank you  @Digital_Chaos

@PKT1106

The deer management permits are only good from the 25th of September to the 28th of November.

if you are a land owner you can apply for a deer nuisance permit. Kinda hard to get from what I hear.

Go here to start

Deer management permits may be used to
take antlerless deer. The permits are valid
on private land statewide from Sept. 25 to
Nov. 28, 2021. Deer management permits
are not valid on public lands, except Kill
-
deer Plains and Lake La Su An wildlife areas,
and authorized controlled hunts.
Hunters are not required to buy an eithersex deer permit before purchasing a deer
management permit

45-70.

Checked the zero on my 450BM AR and launched my SiCo hybrid 46.

No baffle strike. But it appears something wrong with the locking collar / flash hider fit. As this is not the first time this can has flow.

Fortunately the Hybrid flies as well as someone could throw a hotdog. So it went about 15 feet and impaled into the ground.

And now need to order a new locking collar for the hybrid.

Trusty 45-70 though…

I was out this morning too in a different stand. Had a deer stroll by at 6:55, but couldn't make out if it was a buck/doe.  Too early to shoot anyway. I heard 1 shot far away about 7:15 and that was it. Trying out a new stand now. Neighbor headed south for gun season and said I could use it. 20' up overlooking field, next to 60 acres of woods.  The only issue is that the woods you see on the right is a 10 acre strip owned by people who won't let anyone in to track, but will happily trespass and sit in stands on other neighbors land

Spent my lunch break setting up my blind. Debating on going out for a doe, not sure if I will but I think having the option is the way to go.

Didn’t hear a single shot though today.

After missing twice at 30 yards (last one on Friday morning), a black Friday sale got me and I upgraded crossbows. Running out of hunting opportunities I ended up taking down a doe last night with the new crossbow. I was going to take one of the littles out with me, but both came down with something, makes me kind of sad I couldn't include them.

Now that the pressure is off, I may refill the feeder and see if I can grab another in January, but December shut it's door on me already.

The only bobcat I've ever seen in 30+ years of hunting, I shot with a 7mm.  Thought I missed at first, jumped 4 feet in the air and took off like nothing happened.  Then it piled up in some laurel making the worst growling sounds I've ever heard in the wild.  When I got to it, a hit was obvious.  More than a fist sized hole in its chest and a piece of the jacket or something nearly sliced it's front leg off.  Maybe a 3/8" piece of skin was the only thing hold its leg.  Amazingly tough animals.  I somewhat regret not paying out the ass to have it mounted.

Woodsman 360 under the TenPoint umbrella. Them being just around the corner is dangerous for my wallet. I'm surprised though, even as a bottom tier crossbow, the price point for the performance. Between the specs of this and my boss's 4 year old TenPoint, they are near identical, but he paid more than 50% more.

Sat in the blind this morning... This guy wandered in just before 8am

Attachment Attached File

Guess who already filled their buck tag on a smaller buck a couple weeks ago? .

I got to watch him wander directly towards my neighbor in a stand.  My neighbor had never deer hunted before until a couple weeks ago after I talked him into it .  I was praying he was paying attention...BOOOOMMM .  He was using a 350 legend he bought last week so he would have something to use for gun season.  He showed me where the buck was when he shot and I saw no signs of blood and he started losing confidence in his shot placement.  I was able to locate fresh hoof prints and followed them a couple yards, then spotted blood.  The trail was very sporadic.  I would find a decent spot, then it would go to nothing, so I would have to look for hoof prints again.  I had to circle back to last known blood spot multiple times, literally on my hands and knees finding literal specks of blood.  I was worried it was a bad shot or guts plugged the hole.  Also we were getting super close to neighbors property line who refuses to let anyone track onto his land (I mentioned it previously in the thread).  I called my other neighbor who has a lab he hunts with.  He has never tracked a deer with the lab, but wanted to see how he would react (we literally had this conversation yesterday).  I figured we had nothing to lose at this point besides a really nice deer.  The lab showed up, I showed where we lost blood trail (he went thru a giant puddle).  The dog picked up blood on the other side of the water and found the deer in less than 30 seconds.  It was fucking incredible.  Double lung and took the top off the heart.  Dead deer running.  Bullet never exited far shoulder.  Will find it when we process him

First year deer hunting, only sat like 6-7 times and he drops this bruiser.  I think he is spoiled now... And hooked for life.  Welcome to the addiction my friend,. I'll take the blame.

Doggo gets to be in the pic because he was the hero of the day.

Yep.  After I heard the shot, I could see him start to pack up to climb down.  We were about 75 yards apart.  I sent him a text and said unless you see it dead, sit the hell down and wait.  I texted him the picture and told him he visited me first .  If I hadn't filled my tag already or wanted to poach like an asshole, my 450 would have gone to work... At
13 yards
