I had to drive a few cities over last night and saw deer EVERYWHERE on my way home.
I changed my plans tonight so I'm able to hit the treestand this afternoon. |

Bucks are responding well to aggressive calls. Had a couple come charging in to a grunt call and rattle last night. No shooters.

I have been agitated with a fricken head cold this week... should be better by Saturday

I put one in the freezer last weekend from WV. Only bought one tag for archery, so I guess I'm done for a month. He wasn't the little 8pt I thought he was, but after only about 2 hours of sitting, a nice lil 6pt got a broadhead through one lung and the pump house at 33 yd. He ran about 60 and crashed. Pretty decent for a 25-30 year old Darton compound.
Good luck to the bow hunters putting in time out there. ETA: Only cooked and washed, haven't whitened or sealed yet. Attached File |

The rain seems to be holding off for now.
Nothing moving, but also no rain. |

Quoted: I'm sitting in the rain with nothing moving, so at least you have that going for you View Quote Yeah, it’s all north of me in your neck of the woods. Stay dry and hopefully bullwinkle takes a late morning stroll within 20yds of you. ETA: Grunts and rattles aren’t cutting it this morning. |

All I saw this morning was a coyote so small I honestly thought it was a cat at first.
Been seeing some chasing in the last week, but it's the typical small/immature bucks pursuing does that want nothing to do with them pre-rut. I'm expecting things to kick off next week and be pretty active... |

I was too busy to hunt this weekend, I’ll get out a few evenings this week. Before the time change it’s a good sit after work until dark.

My cell linked game cam is blowing up this morning.
Let the games begin!!! |

Yup, getting a lot more movement in the last 6-7 days.
Morning and evening! Attached File Attached File |

My cousin killed a nice big one this morning, while I was at work

Six total bucks seen on a 4hr sit this evening. Four up a does ass.
It’s happening. |

A buddy scored a nice 10 pointer on my land in west Madison county tuesday evening. I think he said it was 8 yards away
I will see if he wants pics posted |

What a weird season.
All last week was buck action. This week is like someone slammed the door closed. My game cameras have gone silent, sightings have been greatly reduced, and I haven't seen a buck chasing since late last week. I don't know??? |

Maybe the warmer weather is keeping them only moving at night?

Quoted: Maybe the warmer weather is keeping them only moving at night? View Quote I’m sure it’s not helping but, they should still be moving... One of the best studies I have read concerning the rut and how weather, moon, etc. affects it. It’s backed up with a lot of data from a credible source. Simply put, it doesn’t. The rut takes place the same time every year regardless of pretty much everything. https://www.pgc.pa.gov/Wildlife/WildlifeSpecies/White-tailedDeer/Pages/Whenistherut.aspx |

I've had blood trails I couldn't find anything for 40 yards and the deer only went 50 or 60 yards. |

Might take a bit to fill enough to get blood pumping out in a noticeable manner. Did the deer run away with his tail up or tucked down? I've shot a couple over the years that left virtually no bloodtrail, but I did find them using a grid pattern. That sucks, I hope you find it. |

There are a few thickets over the crest of that hill, about 100yds from my stand. I figured for sure he would be laying dead just inside of one of them based on where I saw the arrow hit. I've shot a couple over the years that left virtually no bloodtrail, but I did find them using a grid pattern. Did that for hours after we couldn't find the initial blood trail. We went through the thickets in the field and the brush around the perimeter on the other side of the field. The buddy I called to help me is one of the most experienced guys I know to ask for help, and he's hunted the same property in the past. |

I’ve seen it twice with elk now where a similar thing happened… Good shot but no blood and unfortunately no animal to be found. One of which we saw the trace, good impact, literally rolled down the mountain into some brush. Had four guys searching until it got dark and didn’t find a drop. Like the damn thing up and vanished. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t believe it. Crazy shit can happen when that adrenaline kicks it despite otherwise fatal shots. |

View Quote I’m in this boat this morning after plugging a nice buck. Good hit from 15 yards, he bucked hard, watched him run off with an arrow sticking out of him. Found two little traces of blood before he got into some very tall grass. I just walked all the deer trails in the grass with no luck. About to start a grid pattern. |

After losing a deer a number of years ago, that I know I had a fatal shot (recovered arrow) from a crossbow, I found this stuff. I have had to use it a couple times since and it is awesome stuff.
One deer found after blood trail turned into drops after 50 or so yds and went into a grass field (I hate tracking blood in grass - it sucks). One deer found after drizzle turned into rain and pretty much washed the blood trail away as we were following it. Only downside is you have to wait until low light or dark to use it - but it works so well I always make sure to have some on hand every year just incase. https://www.bloodglow.com/ |

Quoted: That's a bummer. Any updates? View Quote Unfortunately there was no recovery. Three of us tracked that buck with two thermals and the land owner who was a super experienced deer hunter and knew his farm better than anyone. We had two small blood stains not 100’ from where I hit him. We found the crossbow bolt 300yds from where I hit him, it was dark red blood with 12” of penetration. No leakage where he dumped the bolt. No further blood was found. We zigged and zagged over a 1/4 mile for 3.5hrs before giving up. I know we were bleeding worse than the deer was from briar thorns. My clothes weight an extra 5lbs from all the burrs stuck to them. It’s a huge bummer, it was a really nice buck and would have been a wall hanger for me. We will keep an eye out for the buzzards and hopefully recover the skull and antlers. |

Got lucky yesterday and thwacked the one I’ve had my eye on all summer.
Attached File He’s a beast, 3 split tines 14 pts in all. Was so damned lucky. He snuck In On me I turned my head and he saw me and stared me down, so I closed my eyes to get him to calm down, he settled a bit and turned and started to walk away. Turned a little broadside and I shot, thought I had a good lung lined up, heard the thud but couldn’t tell where I hit. He ran in a arch to the other side of me to my right and I saw him stop at the woods line. Gave him half an hour or so and started looking. Found him laying down but alive so I put another arrow in him and he was done. I shot him in the ass the first time. Right upper thigh. Arrow went through his leg and into his guts. I figure I clipped his femoral. I didn’t lead him and he walked forward and took one to the tuchus. So glad I waited him out and still shocked he didn’t jump and run when I found him.
