Quoted: I'm thinking of volunteering to do joint pilot training with the navy at NAS Whiting Field in Milton. My main motivation for this is that my wife is a marine biologist, and i see her having the best chance of finding real work if i come to FL and do the navy thing as opposed to any of the USAF pilot training bases.
I'd appreciate some honest no-shit advice on the subject. |
It is basically a suburb of Pensacola... It was sort of a country town until a few years ago when many people started to move out there. Its probably 20-35mi from the beach (rough guess)... Most of your shopping (clothes, etc) you're coming to Pensacola. They have a Wal-Mart
They have good schools... They used to be a dry county, but recently went wet.
If you're talking about pilot trainning, then your looking at Whitting Field which is even further out.
I don't know about Marine Biologist jobs in the area, I'm sure they exist, but I bet its probably a fairly tight market.
It is the country... You have all the stuff to support people living, but they come to Pensacola for entertainment. I'm not even sure they have a movie theater. I mean, people don't move to Milton for Milton, they either have a job there or were born there and never left.
Most of the pilots (I have known) live in Pensacola and just drive out there... But, it is a hump... You don't just hop on the Interstate in Milton, you have to travel a distance to hit I-10 (remember this based on where the Navy Field is.) Fuck it, volunteer for a year, your wife can always get a job waiting tables and there is no shortage of that vocation here.
